Here is a good pic from Bike Radar that shows the linkage and how it captures the rear shock eyelet to prevent movement.

like the uninterrupted seat tube, but me thinks that is one ugly frame.

I'll take function over fashion going down a mountain though.

Wait? The shock is integrated into the linkage system? And is relying on the shock shaft as a support? No other shock options?

Um way to go Specialized...:bonk::bonk::crazy:

I want what they're smoking. An almost cool design and they can't stand NOT putting somthing f*cked up in there.

hate the design still, love that demo 8 though...it's just annoying that although people complained about only being able to fit and fox and a double barrel on the old SXT, specialized limited the options even more, now you can only use a fox.

I think it looks pretty good actually. I like the non-interupted seat tube as well. I'd like to see the geometry too. It's a bummer that, as of now, there are not more shock options but that may change with time.

I hope they get a reality check from doing such a stupid thing.

I can't imagine many potential SXT owners would want to be stuck with limited shock options. Heck the current model is bad enough not being able to get a Roco on there.

How could there possibly be ANY advantages to an intergrated shock style? Onec again Spesh has some backasswards ideas going on. BUT what the f*ck do they care right? They're still going to be raping in the money.

I blame the consumers. :cheers::monkey:

Do people really change shock that often?
I'm thinking it's more of when you do have to change a shock, you remember what a pain it was or that it isn't/wasn't possible. That memory tends to stick the most, for me at least.

On another note, personally, I have changed (and am wanting to change) the Fox shocks on ALL of my bikes. Yep, Fox and I just weren't meant to get along. So yeah, if I bought that bike, I would probably want to change that shock out. Or at least get it Push'd.

sure, maybee not that the same person changes the shock on the same bike but a guy who owns an SX and uses it for slopestyle in whistler isnt gonna want the same shock as the guy who rides his SX on the east coast as an all around trail and mini freeride DH bike, Rocos can be adjusted to ride one way while fox can be adjusted to ride another. its not that you personally would want to change the shock on your bike so often its that the broad consumer base doesnt all ride the same shocks. but ... apparantly specialized is forcing them to.

another poor decision on spec eds part,

I have said it before and ill say it again, specialized is made by number crunching engineers who never really ride their bikes and have no contact with the outside world.

I hear what you are saying but as a brand new complete bike I think few consumers will want to change shocks around besides a few spoiled down hllers :)

EXACTLY if people keep lemming'ing along, companies will continue to make crappy proprietary designs that put more $$ in their pocket and screw over the consumer.

HOwever, it does look like that link works with an off-the-shelf DHX, this would at least allow someone to replace the shock with an air version or simply buy a new DHX via the net, rather than having to find one directly from S.....the length and stroke could still be proprietary (and most likely are nowing S) which negates all the above...

So, I guess you are talking about Brandon Sloan, their product manager who has had top results in Semi-Pro DH and is an incredible technical rider.
Who brought out an entire product team for testing of the 09 prototypes at Windrock in February of this year, and beat that $hit into the ground.

Or maybe you are talking about Chris Wyatt, their tire engineer and developer
who is a straight pinner.
Pictured below ripping his way to 4th place in open class at a local race in June.

I was about to ask what makes this bike any more "proprietary" than the current model. The only thing that looks different is the spring retainer.
When I got my double barrel for my 07 SX trail, Cane Creek had to machine the spring retainer to get it to clear properly which they do for all their customers if needed.

The main suspension engineer Jason also rides all the time... makes it up to the Shore and Whistler all the time on his Demo.

Over your shoulder whispering
Brandon rides the T total piss out his stuff. Wyatt is the ultimate crash test dummy too...he really should have that yellow/black thing tattoo'ed on his head.

The Shovla, you really better think before you go muddling the waters with that kind of statement.

And besides, very soon you should receive an announcement that someone we all know and love who lives to ride is now part of the S-Works fold too.

Maybe they will switch all of their bikes over to their in house brand of suspension...way to ruin the enduro line....

Thats noble, they have some good riders to test and engineer. Their input must not be taken seriously or something....

I think you guys are looking at it wrong... It looks like the eye end slides into the linkage and the bolt goes through it, which i would think is a very strong design.

Word on the street for 2009 is that the enduros below the pro level will have 36 forks on them. However, the E150 fork works pretty darn well and I never had any problems with mine.

Brandon Sloan would probably outride 90% of the people you call 'real mountain bikers'

You're on crack if you think that the designs they've been putting out lately aren't influenced by some very capable riders.

Certainly what it looks like.

So then it's 'proprietary' only as far as the width of the shaft base/eyelet housing. I don't know because I haven't measured them but how much variation between brands is there? If a vivid/roco whatever has the same eyelet WIDTH then maybe you can do some mixing and matching.

Either way, spec has come up with some really solid shock interfaces recently. It sucks working on them and keeping track of the washers but the systems on the demos are bomber as hell.
