Mine is 3566-2153-8283 for Mario Kart.

Wingnut, I registered you, now you have to register me. From the Mario Kart main screen, go to the Mario Kart Channel, and hit Friends. Then Register Friend

Looky what the UPS man dropped off right now. This should get me some plus points from the wifey. Maybe enough for some bike parts. *shrug*

Hey, Arkayne, my wife wants a wii fit...but she doesn't want to have to deal with unlocking different games. Can you just play whatever you want on it, or does it force you to spend time working to open up different options?

hmm.. the whole concept of the Wii seems scary to me...folks playing or doing things they can actually do in real life!! I don't get it!....just another way for us to become more closed off from one another IMO...D

Yeah, Super Mario Galaxy is just like when I fly from psychedelic planet to psychedelic planet collecting star bits.

Dude, it's just another video game. If it's tennis instead of fighting Darth Vader, what of it? It's also a fun way for non-game geeks to enjoy something that would otherwise be way too complicated for us to deal with. (see my enjoyment of those Star Wars games that you and Sanjay love, with like 9 million buttons...)

It's not taking the place of real life, and I don't think anyone says, "Well, boy, now I don't have to leave the house to play real tennis anymore!" It takes the place of other video games or surfing the monkey or TV whatever else you're doing for some recreation. If any video game is taking a disproportionate amount of time or preventing you from being a whole person, that's your issue--not the fact that you swing your controller instead of using a little stick.

Unfortunately, you have to work your way up to unlock the other games. It doesn't take much to unlock them though. I bet there is a code somewhere to do it.

It's fun! My abs are sore from the Hula Hoop games. lol

Does it force you to put in weight loss or other goals or can you just play?

I've been doing that too, but I keep getting caught in no fly zones ;)

I actually know two people that are now tennis partners, after playing tennis with each other on the Wii

You can set your weight goal +/- and can change it every 2 weeks. You don't have to put a goal and just play a guest account but your stats won't save.

Picked up Umbrella Chronicles and a Nyko Perfect Shot last night (the Wii Zapper is ok, but it is a bit small for my hands).

I've played that stupid game so much in the last day (when I should be writing a paper) that I've got hand cramps. Maybe using the Weaver stance with the new gun will help.

The Wii Zapper is so unlike a real gun that you just have to go mall-ninja with it.

But it probably works for those kids who grew up playing video games with reticles on-screen rather than actually aiming a real gun (or are Duck Hunt veterans...)

I need to get a shooter. Is the game worth the $$?

So far, I'd say yes. Give me a week or two with the game to make a more informed decision.

I gave MoH a good look too. I really like the PSone versions, but the the horror aspect of UC suckered me in.

No kidding. It took some effort the first time I used it to get away from aiming and just use the crosshairs.

The Perfect Shot looks and feels more like a real gun although the grips are a bit on the fat side. It too is best aimed "mall-ninja" style (nice description ).

Anyone else have Zelda: Twilight Princess? I got frustrated with it (beginning of the Goron mines) but now that I've learned how to play a truly geeky game (takes a while for the non-initiated to learn the general paradigm for solving video game puzzles), I'm freakin' addicted.

Must have missed this thread somehow. We got one last Christmas and I bought mario kart about 6 months ago. I'll have to look up the number when I get home. I like the idea of a mario kart tourney. :thumb:

we have a Wii, but i've been rather underwhelmed with the games available for it. it's not the quantity, as over 500 are available per Metacritic's list, but rather that most of them seem to suck.

first off the ones we own:

  1. Wii Sports: meh. tennis is overly simple and is the most compelling game imo. we haven't played this one at all since we got Wii Sports Resort.
  2. Wii Sports Resort: we played a lot of frisbee golf initially, and i also like the swordplay, ping pong, and 3-point shooting modes. the rest of the "events" get a big meh from me, on the other hand.
  3. Wii Fit, and Wii Fit Plus: decent motivational tool but not especially fun as a game. i do like getting my Wii Fit Age and how the Mii reflects your BMI, but it's not that compelling in terms of replay value outside of tracking your progress.
  4. Mario Kart: we played it enough to beat all the 150cc races but now it lies forlorn in the games basket.

next up, the ones that we've tried but don't own (usually for good reason). going down the Metacritic Wii games list in descending score order.

  1. Super Mario Galaxy: tried to rent, scratched disc
  2. World of Goo: jessica's mother has this, and this was fun for a bit. i feel no need to play it more, however.
  3. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: i played this until i got to the ice boss dude, then felt the reward/drudgery index was too low and stopped.
  4. New Super Mario Bros. Wii: we have this rented at the moment and it's pretty good, albeit better rented than owned imo.
  5. Super Paper Mario: strange. amusing concept i suppose.
  6. Trauma Center: Second Opinion: actually my favorite of the bunch, even despite the medical inaccuracies :D . doesn't have any replay value, however, imo: linear story line and could be completed in a week of moderate play.
  7. Grand Slam Tennis: i was all excited since it uses the MotionPlus but the control was simply awful. far more frustrating than fun.
  8. We Ski: amusing for about 30 minutes then without charm.
  9. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: jessica liked it but i was unimpressed. shake or lean at the right time: rock band with nintendo characters on ice.
  10. Wii Music: another one that jessica's mom has. fun for a few hours but ultimately shaking to create "music" is unsatisfying to actual musicians. trying to learn the multi-button-press-and-shake "drum set" was challenging but not especially rewarding.
  11. Mario Party 8: yet another one that jessica's mom has. jessica likes it somewhat and i totally fail to see the appeal. way too neon and transition scenes between tiny little games.
  12. Up: we actually liked this one, possibly out of fondness for the movie. on the other hand, it's aimed at the 5-10 year old range and we beat it in a day. its control layout basically consists of 3 or 4 "moves" and that's the whole game.
  13. Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII: also have this one out at the moment. frame rates are terrible. graphics are a decade old. using the accelerometer for control is a recipe for frustration. that said, i played through several missions before getting tired of it so i guess it was worth its rental fee.
  14. DiRT 2: horrible. tracks are narrow and constricting, physics are very arcade-y, and graphics are underwhelming. oh, and the "plot line" is entirely linear and contrived. avoid.

i guess those are all the ones we've tried. note that there are no good driving games on that list, and no good flying ones, either... maybe i'll give PC gaming a try if i do build that hackintosh, or maybe we'll end up with a PS3 eventually when/if Gran Turismo 5 gets released (summer 2010?).
