Well I got a pair of Bonti Duster rims built up the other day and I wanted to convert them to tubeless. Well what a shocker (insert sarcastic tone) when they didn't have rime strips for it.
Well I had strapping tape, a bottle of Stan's goop and a Stan's 29er rim strip. What the hell, I'll try it anyways...
Step one was covering the spoke holes with the strapping tape. No problem.
Step two was building up the channel with strapping tape (probably would have easier to reverse the steps) I had used 1/4" tape to fill the channel.
Step three was to install the rim strip evenly about. This was the most tedious part.
Step four was install the tire on the rim (Bonti tubeless front and Specialized Captain rear) and pop the bead into the rim.
Step five was to unseat a small section of bead, add two scoops of Stan's and re-inflate. Don't forget to do the spin and shake thing.
Viola....
Both beads "popped" and seem to be holding air. Installation was super easy...alomost too easy...:brow:
Riding in the morning so I'll let you all know on a follow up.

I'm going to set mine up tubeless soon as well. Strapping tape, then 3M mounting tape, then two runs of electrical tape with a homebrew goop solution I learned of. Uses Mold Builder from Michael's craft store. 3 heaping teaspoons to 4oz. of washer solvent. Works great.

Hope to hear of your successful ride soon.

Well Ted, due to a lousy ride and technical difficulties on the trail, I will have to postpone a ride report for now.
I will say they did hold air with no problem.

Toddre - it is cool to hear they held air - especially under the pounding our terrain can take on tires/wheels.

Put em on The Supercal and ride like you stole it the next time out and give us a full report!
