So I LOVE my fox 911 shin guards. But my knees have gotten a bit banged up when I hit them on rocks. I'm not hitting them any harder than I used to, but it's hurting alot. I tried my old race face roach guards, and those are awful, I remember why I stopped wearing them 15 seconds into the trail. My question is, is it a terrible idea to wear something like an additional soft shell kneepad under my 911's? Something like the 661 kyle straits?

Edit: It's not that the pads are moving around, its that they are just not stopping the pain when i hit them

Those fox's plastic doesn't look all that thick, and looks a little flexible.

A sort of expensive solution, but this combo works excellent. I even wear them at the skate park under jeans. They have saved me nad my knees, and my shins many times...

Pros:Pads never move around.
Harder thicker plastic saved me a lot.

Con: The pads do make my legs a little red and sore in the back of my legs if I do DH for more than 2 days for 5 hours, but nothing that isn't bareable.

I'm curious why you dislike the roach/raceface guards so much. Care to say what bothers you so much about them so something else can be suggested?

no knee/shin is going to stop the pain. it will just deaden the blow and hopefully save your knee from being shatterd. if i was you though i would look into some dainese stuff, or the tld combat guards.

Well, they don't stay on my knee at all. They just slide down either A. while walking or doing nothing, or B. just slide down off my knee in a crash. I've tried putting them at all different heights on my leg. It might just be cause I'm freakishly tall and they are destined to just be the wrong size.

Get some 661 kyle straits. Drill some holes at the bottom of them, then drill some holes at the top of the shin guards. Zip tie everything together and WA-LA. some kyle strait knee guards with attachable shin guards.:imstupid:

I had this same problem with my dainese bib.
The knee protection contours great but is lacking in crash protection.
Went to walmart and bought some gay a$$ volley ball knee pads and i wear them under the knee armour .
They are thin yet cushy....about $10.

Heckling from your friends......priceless.

You must have very thin legs. I'm 68kg and wear oversize (XL !!!) and I had no sliding for like 2 years. Not a single knee/shin injury. Use the DH model though. Don't know how is it with FR one.

maybe the padding in your fox's have worn out, from crashing in them too much, try crashing less. if the hard plastic is ok, get the liners, otherwise try new pads.

My knee/shin pads would slide down to my ankles after a few mins of pedaling. I put silicone on the contact area of the straps and some on the insides of the pad to prevent it from sliding. Worked like a charm.
