The Chatel Mountain Style course has nothing to do with Kona. It is a Scott sponsored event that happened last weekend and Timo took first place, Bearclaw took second and Curtis Robinson took third. The event was judged on 3 categories being difficulty of line choice, fluidity and tricks. Bearclaw 3'd the upper step on step off, Timo tricked everything in sight and Curtis super seatered a big step up and shredded the rest on a 4 inch bike. It was some good action. At night the dirt jump comp saw a stomped 360 flip by a french guy and many other tech tricks like 3 whips, flip whips and double whips. The level was high. Here is a little write up with some pics

Chatel was a lot of fun! Tracks like Gueps and Bike Patrol are so nice! We also enjoyed the Avoriaz tracks, especially No.1. The whole place is awesome.

We leave for Morzine this weekend. Looking forward to it. Will have to take it easy for the first few days, as we sure as hell don't want to nail ourselves right at the start of a riding holiday...

I've never hit the Chatel road gap, despite eyeing it up for the past 2 years. Whats it like? Couple of cranks out of the corner and just let it fly? It looks like a fairly natural angle for just hitting at the right speed & it will take you right to the transition...

yes naturel angel, if dry conditions you do not need to crank it up. if wet need two-tree crank out

Here is a shot of the same road gap

Chatel is Rad!
Has the take off on that gap been moved back since last year or does that angle just make it look way bigger than it is? Might head out in a few weeks if I can get back on the bike(Found a last minute deal) realy realy want to go back to morzine

I went to head over to Morgins the other day, but the Mossettes lift was closed. Gutted. The new track looks awesome, Ben and I've been hearing good things...

Morgins has always been one of my favourites.

We'll catch up soon for a ride.

The hardest part of shifting here is making the decision to do so.

Every foreigner who lives here had to make it and I certainly don't regret it.

So tasty!

I have 23 lads from the UK staying at the moment. I'm guiding them tomorrow, so may take them over there.

They want to check out the Champery WC course too, so there may be some brits in a world of pain later... heh heh heh...

Yes. Go to the top of Mosette France and take a left then a right and then your second left.

One of the things that makes Morgins so good (apart from Ben's trails), is the fact that it is hard to find, get to and get out of again. Unless you know what you are doing.

These facts make it a quiet place with pristine tracks that are well maintained and no braking bumps/punters.

Bucko's directions are technically correct, but you'll still find it difficult without a guide. If you are in Morzine, drop me a line and I'll see if I can either point you in the right direction, or take you there myself.

Otherwise just ask for directions as you go...

Yeah I don't doubt that - actually I sent you a PM ages ago about that but you never replied? How hard is it to get work around there, and are the french/swiss bastards about work permits/visas? Oh and the only french I know is "Je ne comprend francais pas", and "je voudraix nich ta mere s'il vous plait"... but I suppose I could always learn a bit more :)

Man I was pissed I didn't have my bike with me when I was over there last year... was like going to the strippers or something, you get teased hardcore but at the end of the day there's no action :(

Hey Socket

There are always hoops to jump through to get a work permit but if you are committed then you will find a way. I have never lived in a place with so much opportunity to live your dreams. I like to ride bikes and snowboards as much as possible and had a hard time making it happen all over the western US then I came over here and it is so much easier to work a bit and ride a lot. I have plenty of Aussie friends over here making it happen. Switzerland is cheaper living, better salaries and less brake bumps, btw. Haha.

The weather has been spot on for the last week out here. Looks like its about to turn over the weekend with some showers coming in though.

Had a good day in the PLJ bike park today, some of the black runs at the top of the lower lift are great. Steep & tech. Reminded me a bit of Champery.

Will have to make the trip to Morgins though, some friends went earlier this week & they said it was brilliant this year :)

The thunder was bad today, we got stuck out riding Chatel town. Didn't get a chance to ride the ACC course this time. Get back to Morzine was a pig. Thankfully they were shuttling up to Chaux Fleurie with pickups for all the stranded riders :(

Will be out in Champery on Monday if the weather holds, we may pop in & say hello if you're about Ben :)

Cheers for the info, good to hear! How's your French, do you need to be fluent to get work around there? Or is speaking a decent conversational amount enough, or can you find english-speaking work or what?

Pics and videos are sick... absolutely hanging to ride now!
