Some better pics of the finish and the final setup.

(I installed a rail-mount and a cymbal mount on the bass drum)

A drummer at the office saw this thread and claims that kit is like driving a Kia.

Why not DW?
A Kia? has he seen the newer PDP kits in person? I'd say it's more like a Santa Cruz frame as opposed to a hand-built Bontrager.

This is not a low-end kit, but it is a production kit. The quality and fit/finish of this kit is light years beyond even the best kits you could get 10-15 years ago.

The DW kit comes later. I already have it spec'd out. My wife will have me killed though.

I just built my own custom kit last year, then they sent me this one after I signed the artist agreement. I packed up my ancient Tama kit and put it in storage. I may just have too many drums.

Maple's deeper right?

Dude at work was throwing out his knowledge and asked me to ask ya as he's got a DW kit. He's the guy that's scared of your band.

Peace!

Maple's deeper right?
Kinda. Maple has a "warmer" tone to it. It's prettier and has longer sustain.

Birch has more mid range "punch" and a slightly quicker decay.

On well built drums it's often more of how the kit feels and responds more than how it would sound to a listener from several feet away.

Analogy:

Steel frame vs aluminum frame.

Buckets work great, if you like the sound of buckets.

How are the bearing edges on those Pacific kits?
Clean. Sharp but not too sharp, the inside cut is about 5-6 plies and the outside cut is very thin, only a couple plies.

Almost no noticeable voids or gaps - in fact only one gap I could find on the rack tom was on the bottom edge and it was about 1mm on an inner ply.

The kick edges are a bit rounder. The kick has an amazing attack for a 24" drum. Nice mid range thump to the chest with all the low end you'd also expect.
