Or maybe more accurately, rotating mid-air. I see guys on gapped jumps where the ramps and transition aren't aligned. They go off the ramp, rotate to the angle of the transition, and ride it out. Do you start at the lip by pushing off the ground to start your rotation, or do you do something sneaky after you're in the air?

i think the type of jump you are describing is whats called a "hip". i'm hardly an expert on jumping but from what i know you need to turn in the air to which ever side the landing is on. this can be achieved by counter steering and pushing the rear of the bike out right or left. i'm not so good at the counter steering part but i can usually muscle the bike over to where i want it. hope that helps. also watch some video of someone like thomas vanderham, he goes big and hips with incredible style.....

You need to come off the lip in that direction turning. You can't change direction in the air.
actually you can it just depends on how vert the lip is as to how much forward momentum you are gonna have to deal with when you land. If the lip is near vert or you pull back real hard on a less vert lip then your forward momentum virtually stops and you can turn and fall out of the air in any direction you want...

I think you're talking about transfers, you have to be angled towards the landing when you come off the lip and then adjust in the air to line the bike up with the tranny......you can't go straight off a jump and expect to adjust five feet to the right in the air

if you are talking about hips, hit the lip in the general direction of the transfer, then in the air whip out the back opposite of the turn. line up your frame with the angle of the landing and ride away

u cant go changing direction like a plane but u can change the angle u land on, im sure its possible to get a lil to the side but if u go off straight do not think there is a way to just turn and go 30 feet to the left

:lighten:
and the whip can be done by simply pressing harder on the lower peddle and pulling up and back on the handle bars.

catch air-throw a big ole gnarley whip-turn the bars back straight-land, you have altered your direction of travel in the air, basically..................
