I have seen it and it looks very promising. I would love to have 2 rings, huge clearance and a chainguide up front all in a tight little package.
Hi Ben,

which on have you seen, the freeride Version or the AM version?

Are ISCG taps requirded or will it fit with a e-13 adapters as well?

I woluld love to put one on my trailbike!

Best

Hey Markus,

It was not the one pictured and it looked beefier than that one so I imagine it was the fr version and that is the am version. They seem so close that the AM version might be the one to get due to weight reasons. I think it was attached to the iscg tabs but I am not sure.

I too want to put it on my trail bike and freeride bike. Looks like a great innovation. That and a Speedball seatpost and my FR bike just got a whole lot more versatile.

I have heard that it mounts up to ISCG 05 tabs. If your frame doesn’t have tabs then I would hope you could anchor it to the seat tube since I think it would rotate a BB mounted adapter.

Since the “chainring” is so small the chainforce will be low too. A low pivot or vertical wheelpath bike would work best unless an idler pulley was used. VPP bikes and higher pivot bikes could have issued with pedal feedback.

I might have to stick with my Turner RFX, I hope the Canfield One and Sauce bikes will work well with their parallelogram linkage.

do we get a tab of LSD with each purchase or something???

....i take it, the subtext of the marketing scheme is that this is some kind of counter culture revolution?

fyckit, i'm gonna ditch my rear deraileur and rock tha 2-speed gizmo on my DH bike! ...neo-hippy steeze, birkenstocks resoled with 5.10 sticky-dot tread!

Someone with a scanner and a copy of the new Decline should turn the page from the HammerSchmidt ad and scan the Diamondback ad that shows one of these things on one of their bikes. It looks quite promising.

can anyone explain what this is? thanks.
There is another thread on this crankset on here somewhere,

It is a 2 speed planantary gearbox that should yield a 22/36 spread all in the same size as roughly a 22 T ring. This will allow lots of ground clearance, a shorter chain, NO F DER or multiple rings up front so the chain won't be jumping off all the time. Also, a chainguide is allready built in.

This sounds so awesome! I'm more than ready to leave noisy chains and multiple rings behind and move to gearbox heaven. :)

This is perfect for hardtails...however a lot of suspension bikes ride like ass in the granny gear. That's how your suspension will feel with only a 22T ring until brands build suspension around the use of this product. BTW, it ain't cheap or light either.

seems like the most useful part of this whole deal is that you can optimize chainlines for single pivots. who has trouble with breaking and smashing front deraillers or getting them to not drop chains with a half decent guide

pffft, why are you posting facts and realistic expectations as to how most bikes will ride with it on?? IT'S A GEARBOX!!!11! the future is NOW!!

Sweet for skinnies tho brah! Looks like the Diamondback posted above has it's own tensioner mounted on the frame.... I wonder what SRAM has to say aboot that?

Good point. My ASX feels like total crap when I'm climbing in the granny ring and about half way down the cassette, way too much pedal feedback and I imagine it could be even worse on some bikes.

With that somewhat major issue aside I think its a great idea, but just like everything there are going to compatibility issues. I'd shell the cash and take a slight weight gain to never have to drop a chain or dink with a front derailleur again.

Correct, but if you need a granny gear to begin with, then this isn't exactly a news flash. You probably know something I don't about this crank, but I thought hammerschmidt had the same gear ratios of a middle ring as well. If thats the case, then why wouldn't you want to condense that entire cluster-f*** of a front derailleur and gears into a single ring set up with a tensioner?

I stopped being lazy and converted my XC and AM bikes to 1 x 9 years ago, simply because the hassle of dropping chains pissed me off more than swallowing vomit 20 minutes into a climb. There are some days I would love to chill out and spin up long climbs though, and for that reason the e-spec concept behind this crank looks pretty sweet.
