I have had good results with both Goodridge and Koolstop pads, but I have been running the organic compound. Goodridge makes a sintered (metal) and organic compound. That model Hope runs the same pad as an older Shimano XT.
I have the Mono 6 and hated the sintered stock pads because it squealed hard when it got hot. I bought 4 pairs of Discobrakes for $24 and the squealing went away. I guess the pad material was more organic but it was good enough for what I do and really cheap too. I guess they also have that for the Mono 4. Got it from Ebay!
I dont really care about noise, I just want max brake power. What about BBB pads? I was trying them on my hayes brake. I had new sintered ones. At first I was very satisfied, but after some period there was slight brake power lost. Maybe they were messed with something. Lots of people here are running ,,blue,, ones for downhill.

On newer M4s? The older ones that used 4 pads tended to squeal a lot, but I have not had much issue with any of the newer ones. THis is usually caused by the leading edge contacting the rotor first (the different sized pistons are designed to prevent this).
I would try a few things.
bevel the leading edge of the pad just a bit with a file or some sandpaper
make sure caliper is true to the rotor
make sure you dont have a stuck piston
and finally, clean the rotor and pads with some acetone...and re-bed them.
Back to the orig question.....I have been riding EBC reds for a long while..they dont last super long (actually with the surface are of the 4s they are OK but they are short lived on smaller brakes), but have good bite and grip.
In Hope brakes, we have only ever used Hope pads, we really have found that the original pad is the best.
Tahnée has been running Hope M4's since the since the middle of may. She is lightweight but, with a 160 rotor on the back and a 203 on the front - in 3 months of Racing and general alpine riding we have only just changed the rear pads!
