If you could ride at one place between Aspen, CO and Seattle, WA, where would it be? We're going to be riding on either a Fri or Sat in late August. We're driving to Whistler, so it can't be too far out of the way.

Those are both good choices, if you decide to come to spokane and need someone to show you around let me know. Silver mountain has some pretty good / long trails worth checking out, also exit -- in seattle. if you ask around a bit they shouldn't be hard to find.

Really depends on how close to Whistler you want to get, and if you want to stay in the states or not....and if you like the 'FR' end of DH or just strictly pure DH.....

Hood river Oregon/post canyon is super fun... SHuttle and a bit 'FR' but certianly one of the first places to get 'legal' DH riding in the states....

You certainly could fill a full day in the Seattle area with DH shuttling or ride up/DH down trails. THey are all 'non-legal' however, so you would need to connect with someone here to show you around (should be quite easy).....

You could get to vancouver and do some riding on the shore.....

YOu could make a odd path (bit out of the way) and hit either silverstar or sun peaks....both are within 6 hrs of whistler....and silverstar is super fun (IMO)....

Good lord the choices are endless! I'm not one to ride and tell, but there are massive trails near Seattle off of I-90, Idaho, North Shore, and all the way up from there!

Galbraith Mtn. in Bellingham is a great way to spend a day and right on the way to B.C. Of course, there's TONS of stuff just north of the border. Check out Gutsploder.net if you haven't been on it yet.

And, yes, there are SOME trails east of Seattle that are worth the time to check out. I just got back from riding one of them a few hours ago - the one you push up, but not ridiculously far. It was prime!:monkeydance:

The Shore is already part of the trip. I lived in Bham, so Galbraith is out. I-90 exits are a possibility, but I wasn't sure if they might be too big. How good is Silver Mountain? Is Tamarack worth it?

I haven't been to tamarack so I cannot say on that one but as far as silver goes it isn't that great but it is nice to have some lift accessed riding, I am sure that Sol Vista would blow it out of the water but there is enough terrain there to keep anyone occupied for a day. Exit 3? might be a possibility for you but I hear that they are having some land use issues there lately. 27 is a good option if you are looking for some jumps and shore style trails, not so fun if you aren't into that kind of stuff.
Just east of Couer d'Alene there is a pretty rad tech trail called Caribou Ridge, that is flowy singletrack up top and a mix of roots rocks and ridgeline trail towards the bottom, way fun. Keep the Spokane area in mind.

Gopher and I have the lowdown on all of the local trails including that Couer'dAlene ride. Pm me if you need more reasons to come here. As for Big Sky, thats a cool place for sure but its more wide open insanely high speed stuff. :monkeydance:
