i definitely trust marzocchi more than sr suntour
Indeed. The night trains are nice, but you will most likely end up having problems with the suntour fork and end up having to spend more on a new fork. I'd just go with the black market or p.1, have a solid build and not have to spend more money than necessary.

I have been on an 08 P1 for just over three months and like it alot. The stock Alex rims are crap, I ended up lacing pimplites onto the stock hubs and now it rides much better. Even that should keep you under $1000. Plus the 36 hole pimplites are burly as hell! Alot of people don't like the low bottom bracket, but I have had ZERO issues with it.I've also heard it is heavier than most but have run into no issues there either. At the price though, it is definitely a nice bike. And you are right, the purple on the top of the frame looks sick as hell. The paisley is a little cheesy though in my opinion... The STP bikes are pretty dialed, you check those out too.

I took a Nighttrain out for a demo run and was busting 180's and 360's on it. I thought it was a great bike with good geo and good parts for the price. I think some shops have them on closeout for ~$899. I was --><--- that close to buying the damn thing.

I'm a specialized guy at heart so don't count out the P1.

The better model of the nighttrain came with an argyle. I dont remember if its the 08's Im thinking about though. But the white and purple one makes my day everytime I see it. Personally I dont like the way the spec p bikes ride. I havent ridden the p1, but a friend of mine rides a stock p2 cromo and I think it just feels confused. The black market 357 is pretty tits also for a complete.

Good luck finding the 357 complete, I looked for it myself... Most of the bikes in that pricepoint will come with the dj3 or a suntour fork which are pretty heavy and/or weak. I'd find a complete for as far under as your budget as you can so you can leave a little room for upgrades as you become used to the bike and find out what you like and don't like. I was in the same boat at not being able to spend more than $1000. I got a deal on the bike so that with new grips, new rims, pedals, and a new brake came in just under my budget and now it rides like butter. Well, except for the fork. A 20" is next on the list, so the fork will have to wait till next year.

I tried a couple of different ways to weigh my P1 and it averages out at just under 32 lbs. It's mostly stock except for rims (not whole wheelset). I've read that the dj3 weighs something like 6 lbs. It can always be upgraded down the road if you choose though.
