New Balance is the only sneaker company that still makes some of the products in the US, that I know of....

last i was aware, only a handful of their shoes were made domestically. and the tags specifically stated "assembled domestically of foreign made components"

These are US made by NB, just not skate shoes:

unfortunately no skate shoe is made in the US. However, what you can do is buy from rider-owned companies so at least some of your coin goes back into the industry and not to a conglomerate. I like Orchid. Their product really lasts and their team riders are cool as sh!t. This is all IMO...

not domestic, but nike 6.0 are nice. they have this nice lil +++++ pattern that grips to plastics amazingly, and they come in tonns of fun colors. i know its evil nike - but the grip pattern is perfect.

loteks work great too - but ever since they cut out the brooklyn model - forget them.

takes some cojones to mention nike in a thread like this, haha! :greedy:
...not my thing.

And what's the beef with Lotek, Ed defected to DC for more payout... what are they gonna do, keep producing a pro-model for someone on a dif. team?

...damn I just looked, my vans authentics are authentically chinese. ah hell, I'd complain more if they were $110 and made in nebraska.

Nike is like the king of all sweat shops. I would know cause I had to do a report on it.

But yeah, maybe if your lbs has shoes then some of the money can go to support them, but your going to pay a lot more.

Like Vans?

Vans slip ons are where it's at. And you guys are way too patriotic. One world. One love.

Vans, nike, and others have done a lot in recent years to ensure quality work environments in their manufacturing facilities all over the world. Sweat shops by big companies are a thing of the past... there are just too many people who look out for that sort of thing now. Of course, that doesn't justify what may have been done in the past, but at least things are getting better.

Great topic!!

I'd go see a Chinese movie in a minute where as I've really tried to detour anything made in China for a while.

However, try buying a computer, or sneakers without chinese content.

Cru, I like your philosophy about this situation.

The chinese government is an easy target. To be fair, so is the US government.

I'd like to see some more choices. I'm in the market.

Yeah escapeartist showed me simple, not really very sturdy looking. Nice concept and Im sure nice day to day, but not dice for brakelessness and the damage it wrecks on my footware...

So really no options (or so few)? Thats actually really disappointing I was sure there would be at least a few. *sigh* I suppose lbs shoe it is then.

I want whatever drugs your taking. Perhaps you should vacation along any Chinese river or visit India and tell 9 year olds making our clothing they're doing a great job. American's are one of the only industrialized nations dumb enough to buy goods made by people with a very low standard of living. Out of site, of mind.

Props to the guy trying to buy goods made here. Don't know about skate shoes, but my NB running shoes feel great, but you have to read the label b/c not all NB shoes are made here.

emerica are not us made. none of the sole tech stuff is. The options are next to nil for US made. Our local skate shop, Autumn (www.Autumnnyc.com) who brought you the autumn/ tylenol bowl are cooking up a vegan/ domestic vulc shoe. details in the coming months. I have seen the future and it is finally good.

I don't really care about the vegan part. But if their shoes are domestically produced and durable. I will DEFINITELY be buying myself a few pairs. Please keep us updated!!

I want some decent mid or hightops... why are they so hard to find? Don't people get sick of smacking their ankles on cranks, etc?

The perfect urban/park/dj shoe. (IMO)
Grippy sole (not too grippy like 5.10)
Heel padding
ankle protection
Lace cover, strap, or other way of securing laces easily.

slightly OT...
I'm disappointed that the US is not doing more to promote peace and prosperity in less fortunate countries. We are supposed to be the shining example of democracy and hope. The exploitation of the unfortunate is a huge factor (probably #1) in most of the world's problems today.... I am hoping that we can someday wake up from the stupor we've been lulled into, and get back to helping to make the world a better, safer place.

I agree. To a lesser extent, people are exploited right here at home too. The corruption and deceit right here is very detrimental.

While true, I think its more the point that we're investing into our own mess instead of someone else's.
True, and my comment about exploitation was mostly aimed at other countries. The US has a habit of participating, but isn't necessarily responsible. While it is in our short term and monetary interests to support certain governments and their activities, the larger picture will have to be addressed eventually. As long as people are suffering and oppressed and face a life without opportunity, we'll have "terrorists" and war.

Precisely - the US is by far not the worst of nations when it comes to exploiting laborers. But unfortunately most companies tend to turn a blind eye when it comes to nations who do.

Yes, the larger issue of relying on cheap foreign labor is coming up much quicker than expected. The days of cheap labor from China are quickly coming to an end. Eventually we're going to run out of third world countries to exploit.

Back on topic....DC is where its at in my opinion. I'm on my 3rd pair and they have all been good quality and lasted. My oldest pair is 7 years old. The soles are worn thru but not one stitch has frayed. Excellent quality.

ADIO on the other hand is just the suck. My kid is a skater and all 3 pairs of ADIO's she's had have just fallen apart in a matter of a couple of months. The last pair was $85 and she got 3 months out of them. They literally just fell apart. I'll never spend a dime on them again. Bought her some Etnies and they lasted 3 times as long.

Back on topic what? This thread is about domestically produced shoes. None of the brands you've mentioned fall into that bucket. :brows:
