Heres the latest (unedited) tale from Ged in the UK, aka, Brooklyn Machine Works Repo Man:

"Remember Chas? he had a BMW 'Big Link' bike nicked about 3 1/2 years ago
in a aggrevated burg.(old geezer next door got a bit of a kickin') The
bike is such a beast you know it's just been sat in some crack dealers
house with washing hanging on it.
Well it surfaced last week on good ol' Ebay. So he notifies the police and
they didn't quite believe him when he tells them that to replace new it
would cost about £9000 (had crazy Avalanche MTN shock and forks on it).
So they say they're gonna pass it on to the computer fraud squad and let
them deal with it.
****, gotta act fast or the bike will be gone man, gone.
So i phone the ****in' monkey who is sellin' the bike, played dumb, asked
him about ending the bidding early if i pay him a grand in cash. He only
goes and agrees to meet outside a cop shop in the 'Pool'. I'm gobsmacked,
'yeah that's sound.' WTF.
Anyhow i phone the plod and tell them what's gonna go down and see what
they're gonna do about it. We then set up a 'STING' me being the bait to
catch the ****er and get the bike back.
I'm down on me jack jones so i'm counting on the dibble as my back up,
they better not **** this up!
I arrange to meet the cock sucker outside the nick. This big cunt, 6'5
built like a brick ****house turns up with no bike asking me to go round
the corner to his gaff. 'You got no chance mate, i don't know you etc.
lets do it here outside the police station'
He ****s off and comes back with the bike (ragged to ****, flat bald tyre
and all that) i'm giving it the old bounce up and down when the 'bizzies'
pull up along side and give it the 'Ello, ello, ello, what's going on here
then?' 'Nowt officer, i'm just buying a bike off this scally'
Coppers then get the robbin' bastard in the back of the car, pretend to
search me in the street etc. tell me that they think the bike is nicked
and i should be on my way, jog on. I just walk off shaking my head.
****in' RESULT! recovered the bike and the look on the twat's face in the
police car was priceless. "

What else is going on out there? Making bikes, riding them...the summer has been good:cheers:

RL #10 direct from refurb...

18months in the making! thanks for everyones help!
Love the all black.

In thinking about the RL more I think I could "fix" the outdated geo of those frames with an 8.5 x 2.5 shock and a 66 up front. THAT would be a fun, fast little 7"+ ripper!

My design classic's; Brooklyn Racelink and ex-military (Para regiment) winterised 110 Defender.

Bought as a used frame, fully stripped & re-powdercoated, all new bearings throughout, , Waxoyled internally (to stop rust), mudguard mount removed.

Easton Havoc bars, Thomson X4 stem, Brooklyn bar ends, King steelset (previous owner reamed it for one), 2008 Flite titanium seat, Thomson post, Salsa QR.

Avy forks with carbon KX80 guards, Ti spring for the Avy shock.

Mavic EX729 with Hope Pro2 hubs, super tacky Minions.

Tree sprocket (custom polished), flush bolts, Profile Ti axle, Veggieburgers.

XTR shifter, XT short shadow mech, XTR cassette, PC991 chain.

Magura Gustav's 210mm F&R (wish I'd bought these years ago instead of wasting money on Hope/Avid etc etc)

Bollox to marketing hype.

cool, thanks. also, what adapter did you need for the maguras on the Avy fork? i think I'm going to go the magura route and I would need a front adapter.

need info on the o-ring specs for the bearings on the racelink. I believe it's

ID: 1/2"
Thickness 1/16th" Is that right?

Is there a good place to get them?

I don't know who joe is, but nice looking ride.

Does anybody know a good tire that will fit with the short-chainstay dropouts? I tried an old tioga 2.3, it didn't fit but I don't know if there's something funky with it. I'd love to be able to ride with the short adapters instead of long.

Maxxis 2,35" fits the short dropouts. I've used it myself. Tried Minions, HR and Swampthings.

The RL is an awesome pice of machinery, that's lotta fun to ride for sure, but the truth is that it's an 8year old design. The construction is still top notch, but the goe is outdated as a racebike. My DHR has close to perfect geo, and is by that alot more fun to ride when you're pushing corners.
I'll rebuild the RL some day. Gazza 3's and Monstertee's would be fun in about 10years or so :)

w00dy has one. I've ridden it around, and can attest to the fact that it's like a BMX bred with a mountain bike. You could probably get away with a trail ride, but the top tube is short, and it's just not set up for long rides in the woods...when compared to a real trail bike.

I think he would disagree though, as he's ridden that thing across the US almost literally. I know the top tube would be too short for me, but he grew up with BMXs and I'm pretty sure he loves it, and he's the same size.

Thanks for the reply and insight. How tall are you?

5'11". I've always felt cramped on my RL, but got used to it after a while and put up with it for the quality of the bike/suspension. He's about the same height, maybe taller.

The bike rides a lot like an RL, but with the shorter travel it's much peppier and springier. It feels more nimble and with that more skittish at high speed. Hopefully he'll chime in with some insight of his own, as I have less than extensive experience on the bike.

Sounds great. It could be awesome to own a Mini Link, but they are kind of hard to get by as used for the time being.

The mini is a great bike, well ahead of it's time. But it is old. A year older than the RL and will be blown off the trail by it's own creator when Doc gets to the next bike on the to-do list.

Hey Seismic, Shortbus used to trail ride his mini. If I remember correctly it was his main use for the bike. I bet there are a few write-ups about it in this monsterous thread. ;)

You are spot on, but the question will of course be: When will Doc make one? Even though the Mini is old, I still consider it quite interesting.:cupidarrow:
