It looks like we will be going to Colorado for our "honeymoon" sept 11-16th. We will more than likely be staying in Golden, Denver or Colorado Springs.
I am looking to move out there next year so this trip will be half checking out the area for a place to live and places to ride/race and the other half to relax, touristy stuff and non tourist stuff.

Please shoot me some ideas on where we should stay (what city), what we should go check out in regards to tourist attractions and non tourist attractions that are still cool to check out, your thoughts on where to live in Colorado, etc.

I also plan to check out the motherland, the Yeti factory. Do they do tours and things like that?

Unfortunately she wont let me bring the bike out so no riding on this trip but maybe I will be coming back with one for next season.

Thanks

well L .o . got the lifetime ban from r m and he was the man to ask where the good strip clubs are in co . so my suggestion is go check out a broncos game in denver.i guess that would be pretty cool.

Pretty sure you can go to yeti and hit up the lunch ride around noon or so. You could also get some last runs in at sol vista that weekend. No worries about a bike they have the most stocked line up of rentals from intense santa cruz and trek maitained by world class dhers. As for places to live I would choose golden out of that list, year round riding sometimes in the snow, but not much, close access to the mountains hour plus close to denver and the airport with out living in the city. You should also consider boulder, fort collins and the mountain/resort towns as that is where I live. I just have to travel to bike in the winter.

must spread...

as for 'to do': if you're looking to get a hippie flavor, yes, do boulder (but don't live there; it's over-valued) & make sure you take the cellestial seasonings tea tour. no, i am not kidding.

i like checking out the small mtn towns; went to oak creek this wknd (1/2 S of steamboat).

get off the front range. go west & at least an hour either north or south of i-70. plan to do lots of driving, but understand it's part of the trip. corny, but true. stop a lot & snap pix.

on my checklist: ouray (2 weeks for the leaves & hopefully DH @ telluride if it's still open), hayden, creede, redfeather lakes, silverton narrow gauge RR (again, for fall viewing).

lastly, double-down on sol-vista

you may be too early to the elk mating season, but if you come back out in oct, check out estes park (where they filmed The Shining). elk pretty much take over the town & crap on everything. no biking in that area.

Colorado springs is nice, city convenience and is much closer to the mountains than Denver. The city is conservative (opposite of Boulder, Den is middle of the road)
House prices here are more reasonable too (I just bought my first home)
Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, Royal Gorge, and the Air Force Academy.
(not to mention, arguably the best shuttle runs in the country, Pipeline and Jones DH)

But the Coors tour in Golden is nice! (3 free beers at the end of the tour!!)

Trestle Bike Park is a blast (if Winter Park is still open and you want to do some downhilling). Garden of the Gods is a nice stroll. The Craftwood Inn has a killer menu, and is romantic if you're looking for a little quality time with the woman.
