As some of you may have read I'm in need of a new fork. I would like a high end XC fork and I don't really know what I should be looking or what is a good bang for the buck. I have a Boxxer Team with the motion control and I like the function of that fork, is the SID Team a good fork? Its only slightly heavier than the World Cup. What about Manitou? Are they producing any descent XC forks?

New SID is a lot tougher than the old one. 32mm stanchions and a "power bulge" on the lowers that increase stiffness. I wouldn't use the old SID's - far too flexy for me (190lbs)

Have you considered something like Reba Race? Rockshox seem to settle very nicely and as you know are very plush. I know people who fit RS forks and barely touch them all season. They just work faultlessly. Reba Race will be a lot cheaper than the new SID's too.

HTH?

Agreed the old SID was a POS even the eight weenie pros were ditching it in the end. The new one is much better, but it's some coin. I use a Reba personally. There are some good deals out there on the Reba WC, which is fairly light weight..and stiff.

Haven't used one yet, but the new SID looks good and I've heard good things. As the owner of a c.2001 SID, I can affirm that they do indeed suck. A stiffer version with better damping, however, would be sweet.

Have you looked at Fox forks? I know they are more expensive than others, but used ones can be found for fairly cheap and seem to be good bets as they are reliable forks in general. I have bought a used TALAS and Float 140mm with good results.

Thanks for the replys, I'll stay away from the old SID....did they go to the bigger stanchions in 08, or is it new for 09? I'm going to look at the Reba WC as well. I've thought about a Fox, but I really don't know anything about their XC forks....I guess I should read up on em

Fox tend to be pricey in the UK. I don't know why. They are famous for lasting a season here - the stanchions get ruined by the gritty mud. Rock Shox don't seem to suffer.
