Hey guys, pretty sick of my current Downhill frame - want a bit of a change. Really like the feel of the glory's, and wanted to buy the DH frame - however im not having much luck, but i can get the Freeride version (with 0.8" less travel).
Will be running triples on it and was just wondering how different the Geo is from the DH frame and if it would still pin as good as the DH one (keeping in mind i will have boxxers on it).
Also if anyone has the freeride one and uses it for DH id be interested on how it goes.

If anyone could be of assistance that would be tops.

I have a freeride one. Its fun and cool and all, but its not DH angles, and wont be even with a tripple crown fork. I have a 66 on mine, which is either the same or almost exactly the same as a 888 in A2C height, and its sitting at a 67 degree angle. Yes, I can climb to the top of the hill no problem, even with a 40 lb bike, and Meastro is a great race suspension, but the bikes no DH race bike. In order to get the A2C high enough to slack it out, you'd be looking at like a 15inch BB and super high front end.

If you're looking for a big bike that you don't always get to shuttle/use at resorts, its awesome, but if you're looking for pure DH steer clear

and if you want mine i'll give it to you for cheap :D

but from the sounds of it, its probably not the bike for you. FWIW i'm in the process of switching over to a canfield lucky so that I can get proper DH angles.

Are you looking to buy new or used? I feel like there's always a few glory dh's in the classifieds and on ebay. Of course if you're set on buying new this is a completely useless post. Heh.

In my mind Giant botched that frame up. They replaced the Faith with this bike. The faith has a 2 inch lower stand over and a half inch lower bb height. If you like the feel of Giants suspension and can't get a Glory DH then try and find a Faith frame, With a 8 inch fork the HA will be about 66 without flipping the links, bb height is about 14.2 and the standover on a medium is 30"s

i second the idea of a faith. seeing that i have one. which i got used for $900. i feel that its a great bike that is some what between FR and DH. my has unflipped links and it seems to handle DH racing fine. so my vote is for a faith.
in the words of the great George Micheal, "cause ya gotta have faith-a-faith-a-faith"
haha.

I have a Glory FR and it has a fox 40 and is built for Dh and it is a great bike HA with 203mm fork is 66 and my bb height is just under 14.5...
Bike weighs 40lbs with ti spring and the build I have. It is a way better
setup for DH than a faith. The suspension design is better etc.
The faith may be a better FR rig but, The Glory FR is basically the same as
The DH Race just a degree steeper head angle and 1/2inch taller bar height.
With .8 inch less travel.
I run like a 20mm rise bar with a low stack headset. I would buy one of these
before a Faith but, guess the money could come into play, but, I like
my bike alot!
I have ridden a Glory DH race and the degree on the HA does feel a little better but,
it's not huge! I compete in Pro and have placed top 10 at some big East Coast races
so I don't think you would be on an inappropriate setup.

nope.....it is the same

the difference is the faith gives you a easy access to all the shock knobs and regulations.....and the frame is lighter than the glory dh.

plus it have won a world champ.

The Glory and Faith share the same suspension design, minus the Glory hole which achieves a slightly lower CG. They come with the same shock as well. The Faith is a lower bike......standover and BB height. Claiming the Glory freeride has a better suspension design is a pretty funny statement.
The long and the short of it is, the Faith has some slight differences that give it an edge for DH purposes, and you'll likely find one for much less $$$$. Then you could afford to put nice shock on there.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I know lots of you guys are going for the faith, but I think i would prefer a Glory as its more modern and probably would have a better chance of selling it in the future.

Im coming off a norco atomik, which i find really nice. just wanting to try a different suspension design besides the 4-bar. And the glory feels quite nice how it ramps up. My atomik has a really steep head angle too (64.5/65ish).

So, so far the only thing people are saying about the disadvantges of the Glory Freeride, is that it has a it has a different head angle, higher BB and high front end. Im gonna try look out for a Glory DH but if i dont have much luck ill probably gonna bite the bullet and get a Freeride one. Cant be too bad.

Also, just to add, the build going on it wont be the lightest of builds (MTX Wheelset, Boxxer Races, Hussfelt Cranks, bar and stem).

I am riding one setup like the guy above. very similar part spec to the dh. and i think it rides great. but im not the best person to conduct a test seeing as ive come from bmx bikes and its my first season on a dh bike...ever. i could see why a slackened headtube would help for somethings (im guessing handling at speed). i don't know why you wouldnt be happy with it, but there has been good insight here. i just dont think its as bad as the people are bashing it on.

what I dont understand is how you're getting a 14.25bb and a 66.5˚ HA metal dude. Are you not running tires? my bike is at 14.5bb and 67 with a 2008 66 rc3 on there. Its about the same (if not the same) height as a 888. If the 40 is taller then I could see it slacking it out slightly, but you should have an even higher BB.

What kind of rims are you running that you don't need tires for?

I bought a Glory FR frame and built it as a pure DH rig with an 888 RC3, TI DHX 5.0 and 823 tubeless. 40.09 lbs. I have a 66 HA with a double XC flush headset and it feels fine even in the steepest of terrain which we have plenty of here in SLC. I love the FR frame as it has TT that is over an inch longer. My BB sits at 14.25 and the bike loves to corner. Just put it through a week at whistler and couldn't be happier. I am one to usually sell my bike after a year to try something new but I will be on this frame again next year. I ride the Reign X as my pedal/FR bike as the Maestro Design is so efficient. I def back the FR frame and can vouch for it being set up as DH rig.

does it matter? the only way to slack the bike out without an internal sleeve to change the HA is to slap a taller fork on there. A tall headset will even help (fwiw I have an FSA pig DH in there, with about 5 mm of stack on the bottom) slack out the bike. At the cost of raising the BB.
