Nice Quake! I got mine a couple of months ago from Mike as well but I just got the '06 CL7 frame with DHX 5 coil and built it up from the parts of my old bike. I guess I built it more as a mini dh bike, and the weight is a very hefty 45 lbs.

Let us know how you think it rides. Don't hear much about Whyte's suspension designs on this board...

I've been riding a Quake since they first came out and absolutely love it.
Mine is set up with a Cane Creek double barrel and Fox 36 vanilla up front. It has gotten me through the gnarliest of DH runs.
Between the Quad-link suspension design and the double barrel shock the rear end tracks great only leaves the ground when I want it to.

Personally I prefer the looks of the original boxy frame but that's all subjective.
Other than the sucky ass brakes that came stock (Hayes El Camino), the only issue I have with mine is the 135 spacing but I guess I can get new dropouts to change that.

Uphill:
The Quake's 4 -bar / 4 Pivot suspension offers alot of traction that is best observed when the climb becomes loose, rocky and technical. It efficiently puts the power down and makes the bike feel like 10 lbs less on the uphill. I've personally done a 20 mile ride on this 45 lbs rig when I climbed from JPL parking lot all the way up to Upper Sam Merril then hitting Sunset Ridge trail ending up at El Prieto. It could be done, just have your XC friends wait for you for a couple of minutes.

Downhill
This almost plows the same way my full on dh bike (MC Shockwave 9.5) does. Since I paired it with a 170mm 888RC, my wheelbase extended to 45.5 inches and that is long for a small frame. The Quake is long and low, offering excellent standover clearance and downhill stability. The Quake's suspension has great small bump sensitivity and it easily smooths out the chatters. It also ramps up towards the end of the travel to prevent bottoming out. Square edged bumps are easily smoothened out and rear brake performance over the rough stuff equals my full floater equipped Shockwave 9.5. My bottom bracket height set at the low position is only 14 inches and is quite low considering the tall 888RC's 575mm AC height. This translates to excellent cornering due to the relatively low BB height.

Bottomline, the Quake is an excellent do it all bike for a strong rider. It's efficient in climbing while descending like a full on dh rig.
