Just saw the Freecaster vid (apparently my computer likes Freecaster again - hasn't worked for me for like a year) of the course preview w/ Warner...

When he stood at the landing of the 60ft gapper and the camera pulled back to show where the takeoff was... it just puts the scale into such a clear perspective for the folks at home... after seeing that - it's been said before, but that sh!t is @#$%ing insane.

Wonder what happens if you get crooked on the approach and have to bail to one side or the other of the takeoff ramp...?

Jesus.

from what a lot of people on here have already deduced, though they have only seen pics, it wont be that hard and the run in is dumb....thanks to them I have decided to go and run the track tonight. I will post a write up tomorrow. seriously as good of a rider as someone like Kidwoo may be the 10 or so comments insinuating the course is weak, stupid, easy, or all 3 are a bit sad, almost like a little girl with a crush on brad pitt telling everyone he has bad skin to cover up her feelings.....

WTF are you talking about?

There's not a single person here who said that course looks easy or weak.

The only even remotely unflattering posts have involved the presence of wooden stunts in an event that has traditionally been nothing but lines built with native soil and features.

Yeah dude, everyone here thinks that course is a cakewalk

1. Why didn't those pussies just build a lip where where the beginning of that ramp starts?

Seriously though.........

2. No but seriously......

is ass dragging on your tire with the brakes on cool again?

3. Dude that's like a 200-300ft elevation drop to clear 60 feet!??

4. I'll mail you a sixer if someone is actually dumb enough to straightline that into that ramp. And a year of therapy sessions to forget what you saw

5. Thanks for the clarification spomes. Having been there and ridden the old courses a good bit, I know photos are pretty unreliable either way. Foreshortening does wonders.

6. Does seem kind of a shame to 'park' it up. I mean honestly, hitting a nice, even radius ramp is kind of defeating the point of even dragging the event to virgin IMO.

I don't know if you've ridden the older sections but it's pretty crazy how much braking you have to do between features. Most of the really spectacular crashes were from people not slowing down enough. Lots of fall line stuff with quick acceleration. Speed was never an issue. I actually get more sketched out having to brake into something than having to milk it.

9. It's official...... They drove to virgin to not ride things that are characteristically virgin.

1o. Dang that canyon jump landing is kind of really overly flat.

Try to relax. Not a soul on this forum would insinuate anything but sheer awe about the course and the competitors.

Yeah, there might be some armchair quarterbacking, but this is the freakin' internet!!!!!! So save me the, "I've ridden it, so STFU!" Good for you, but I think we can discuss this topic and any other with the proviso:

"We are not there, so this is just e-speculation."

Alright, so I'll be the Sally to bring this up:

What's the deal on the utter lack of body armor or neck braces?? I mean, we get it - you're a badass and body armor is like, so 4 years ago - but you're going to throw yourself off these gigantic cliffs and wear nothing but a Tshirt and the all-too-trendy neoprene knee wraps to protect your body? Good luck.

I personally would hate to see anyone come away from this comp with a serious injury due to being such a dip$hit, but if/when it happens, they'll basically be getting what they deserve.

OK, I will now set my Sally-Factor back to it's normal level (somewhere between Clay Aiken and the blonde guy from Queer Eye).

Aaron Lutze and Rob Warner are doing a great job at Red Bull Rampage. Day 2 video online: http://www.freecaster.tv/1000006_1006052

Don't hesitate to embed in your personal pages.
You, sir, are a friggin champion.

I totally agree in the sense that it's pretty dumb not to opt for maximum possible protection, but they're not forcing you to not wear armour by proxy, and if anyone is going to get punished for them not wearing armour it's going to be themselves anyway. May I respectfully suggest simply taking the tact of "well that's friggin dumb but I respect your right to make choices for yourself"?

not that surprising - everyone who has watched the earthed films knows that he is not afraid to hit big gap jumps.

In my eyes Gee is currently the best alround rider!

Thats what I thought at first too, but armor won't save you from breaking bones. It also limits your flexibility to some extent and being limber might help more than armor when you crash off a cliff. Neck braces are a different story, a little surprised no one is wearing one that I've seen. All that being said I would wear armor just to avoid cacti and road rash.

It will stop some open wounds and injuries on smaller crashes. It's suck to get injured on rampage on sth silly after cleanly landing a 60foot gap.

On the pad thing:

This isn't any different than going mach nutty on a wet rooty UCI race course. Not like it's that bright but extra pads have kind of become the exception rather than the norm in that realm. If anything I'd say the speeds in this thing are slower than what the top world cup guys are hitting with regularity.

Hell in many places it's actually a much softer landing :D

Heard from a photo buddy down there, the rain shut things down for a while if not the entire day. It's going to be really hard to be productive at work on monday.

holy fvck

um, retard? bet he's wishing he had some kind of cover on those arms once he hits the ground from that high up. survival of the smartest, i guess...

and one other thing i'm confused on...
mike hopkins? james doerfling? Graham Aggasiz? Garret Buehler? Kelly McGarry? who the hell are these people? i thought Red Bull would be able to find some better, well-known riders to stack the roster with but i guess it came down the nitty gritty and they went digging around.

Did you say the same thing when Hill crashed at the world champs ?

Eh ? I think they've all had movie seggies and three of them were in Crankworks this year. IMO Doerfling has a chance of a podium.
