Blindly running into cactus
We found a stray cat the other week and took it in with hopes of finding it a good home. Well, we never found anyone and the new kitten wasn't meshing well with our 2 yr old cat so the time came to take it to the shelter. I explained to the kids that we weren't keeping the kitten from day 1 and that we were just babysitting it but, of course, they all became very attached to "taffy."
So my 5 yr old daughter has been out sick all week from school and i picked up my 4 yr old from school at noon.......with the cat in the car. They both knew we were taking taffy to her new home at the shelter and were in good spirits as long as taffy was with them in the car. we got to the shelter and turned the cat over to the staff. i had to put taffy in a cat cage while i filled out the paperwork and the girls had a good time playing with her in the cage. then it was time to go and my 4 year old baby girl got the most pitiful and despairing look on her face and cried, "i don't want to leave taffy"
i cradled her in my arms and walked her back to the car with my lackadaisical 5yr old in tow (she was unaffected by the transfer) my baby girl was sobbing as if she had just lost her mommy and i did my best to play the "tough love" dad as i passsed by a staff member on the way out. but as we pulled out of the long driveway i pulled over, got her out of her car seat and cried with her, telling her how sorry i was the whole time.
all of you parent monkies know what i'm talking about...or you probably will some day. i've never been so overcome with emotion from watching my daughter cry....heck, crying is an everyday event for her but the look on her face when we left the shelter just simply broke my heart.

talk about them having me wrapped around their little fingers.......

some kid lipped off to my kindergartner on the bus. she held her tears til she got home. after that, i started looking for the pruning shears, latex gloves, and a polaroid.

but i gotta walk that line if i'm going to stick around...

Kids can do that to you. I just went through almost the same thing with a dog...my daughter just about broke her heart and mine.

and it only gets worse when the little girls become teens and have their heart broken by a boy. :(

the hardest part for me was when we moved here and the ex was playin on their heart strings. i had to cut a ride early because i got a call from the kids...both...crying about how much they were missin their dad.

making choices that affect our kids is one of the hardest things a parent does.

See... this is where you just bash the kitten with a shovel and throw it in the woods when the kids aren't around, and then just act like you don't know where it went when they come asking.
Could have avoided the whole thing.

Mine's 5 months old, and that happened in the first five minutes...it just keeps getting more tightly wrapped.

^^^^ The wife is already saving up my bail money.

Front Range, dude...
Nothing worth doing is ever easy...so they say.

My little girl breaks my heart every time she hugs me and gives me a kiss, and every time she turns up her little nose and doesnt. Cant win for losing!

Meh, with my daughter I feel sorry for the boys. She breaks all the hearts.

With her last boyfriend I asked her point blank, "You are in full control of this relationship, huh?"

"Uh....yeah."

Love that kid.

Lame.

You're supposed do it in front of the kids.

Better yet, have one of the kids do it. Teach them how to survive a kitten-zombie apocalypse.

My exs Mother took her cat for "the last ride" and dumped it in the desert outside of Phoenix. Then told her he must have gotten out and run away...and told me all about it. I am waiting for the right moment to tell the ex...hehehehe...

My ex tried to tell me she was in full control of our relationship. I dumped her and got with one her best friends. Does that make me a bad person?

Depends if her friend was hotter than her.

If hotter: you're awesome.

If not: still awesome, cause nothin says, "Fvck you, I'd rather be with an ugly chick than you're controlling ass" better than boning an uglier friend.
