Brevard, NC 28712

Activities
Dual Slalom Race 12 pm Saturday
Night XC race 6pm start
Downhill Race 11 am Sunday

The Skinny
Come stay with us, lodging on site. Choose from cabins, Rv hookups, and traditional ol’ tent camping.

Slalom…Qualies start at 12pm, finals following immediately. This is one of the best tracks in the south, designed and built by Chris Herndon with the help of the Brevard College cycling team. Professional Gate with Air ram and infrared timing system good to 1/100th of a second. This is real Slalom racing.

XC….This is some real Pisgah Racing. Must have approved 10 watt halogen/HID or 180 lumes LED lighting system to participate. NO Flashlight lighting!!! Course is Short and Hard, Laps are short but don’t underestimate the difficulty. The climbs are steep and the descents are even steeper. Be ready to climb! First class starts at 6pm--beginner men, followed by sport at 7, Expert at 8.30. Single speeds race expert and Double up on your race winnings!

DH…two tracks, begginer/sport will race a super fun flowy trail with a small section or gravel pedaling. Pro/Expert will run the “serious” track. It is short but sweet, record time is set at 1.34 but it is packed with steeps, berms, loam, jumps. To have a perfect run is hard!! Beginner sport start at 11, Pro/Expert 1pm.

Awards…Saturday Events will be held at the Bonfire on top of the hill!!! DH awards immediately following race Sunday.

Directions:
From Brevard Take HWY 64 West 5.5 miles, Turn Right At Blue Adventure Village Sign, Take Immediate Left into Adventure Village

Wes, is the beg/sport DH course something that my boy could handle? the only part of that course i've ridden is the hip. That DS course is insanely steep!!! can't wait!

any idea on registration fees? i need to put in my race budget request form to the CFO at the house ;)

Hey everyone, just wanted to give a little update. Wes and I are putting on this race together. I grew up racing in the South East with a great race series. I have seen that dwindle over the years to almost non-existant. Well....we are trying to help bring those fun races back to the area. This race is going to be somewhat like the Icycle, we want fun to be the goal. I think most will find the courses to be pretty good. I put a lot of work into the slalom and the xc. The DH is what a DH track should be and is ever evolving into a different track.

I wanted to let everyone know that Gamut, Specialized, and Eastern have really stepped up to make this a great event. We have 6 chainguides, 36 tires (good ones, not 5 year old stuff they can't sell), a Eastern jump frame, pedals, and a bunch of other good stuff.

We have a really nice timing system for the Slalom, and a world class gate. At the collegiate race we ran over 100 riders for qualifying, and had 44 first round brackets which equals 88 runs for the first round alone and we completed the whole event in just over 3 hours. I know how it is racing, sitting around sucks!!! I am a racer and know what I like and don't like. Wes and I are doing our best to bring to you a racers race.

We are planning a bonfire after the night xc, and Biowheels in Asheville committed for a good time for all over 21, more to come.

I will say the landowners are really cool at this venue. They are actually shutting down after leaf season for the year but are going to open cabins back up for the event. This means if you want a place to stay you need to reserve it. Let's show them that mountain biking is something great to have at their resort.

Also something not mentioned on the flyer, there is a Pumptrack. It will be open the whole event. I built it and it is pretty fun, hopefully someone will vouch for that on this forum as I know a few of you have ridden it.

Anyways I hope you can make it and bring a friend, if not to race at least to hang out and have some fun. Later

Herndon speaks the truth. The Collegiate race was the best run race I've been to. All of the courses finish in the same location and the timing system and gate were top notch, just watch out for the 4th to last gate on the blue lane it can sneak up on you.

So is anyone bringing Turkey? I'm not making the 600 mile drive home for Turkey day this year so I'm going to spend it with you guys and I'd hate not to eat any turkey.

Pumptrack is silly awesome. Basiaclly a dirt skatepark that will have you huffing and puffing in about 30 seconds.

As for the DS. Best course ever. I mean two pedal strokes at the start, then just who lays off the brakes more. Cant really ask for more in a track.

See you guys after Turkey Day!

yup..count me and noah in for that one.

one question though...i already tried a PM to wes but i doubt he spends enough time on RM to even notice it ;)

any chance at a yungin's class or something? i doubt noah wants to race adult beginners (although his 20" wheels would probably be an advantage on the tight berms of that DS course ;) )

I'll ask WesD when I see him and I'll let you know. It looks like it'll be a great time.

As far as I know the pumptrack is always open and its just up the hill from the slalom track. This is gonna be so much fun. Mini world cup DH track and the steepest slalom track ever = very little pedaling the whole weekend.

Granite, lots of granite
I am going to try and make this race. Being the holiday it might be hard though. Last Carters race is this weekend and I am done with my "responsibilities" for a while - time to have some fun and actually ride my bike!

Go the other way of all the smiling guys on dh bikes.

The DH and Ds end at the same place, and if last race was an indicator, it will be fully taped from the bottom up to where it flushes out from the top part. So it will be really easy to find. Just starting hiking, there are some really cool spots to shot up in the steep upper parts of the course.

i spoke with wes and there WILL BE a peewee/kids class for all events. the DH for them will start about halfway down the sport/beg DH course. He said there is no entry fee for the kids as well. just FYI for any parents bringing the youngins along.

i'll be there w/ noah as his full-time bike mule and coach but i might sneak in a run or two to test out the cast ;)
