Is the Remedy right for me?

FClinder had one with a DHX 5. I think a coil (or a air shock with BO adjust like an evolver or Marz roco WC A) would feel alot better. The frame is without a doubt the best "do everything" frame I've ever ridden. It can be ridden as an XC bike and you'll have a great time, but you can ride it like a short downhill bike too. The RP23 that the remedy 9 I tested had on it just didn't do it for me when it comes to more intense DH, rocks, or doing anything freeridy. Yes I know the bike is not a DH bike, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna slow down for the rocks and not hit the jumps.

its pretty burly. Theres no flex, and theres a lifetime warranty. Theres a dude over on MTBR who goes pretty big (7-8 foot drops plus transition - I've done them on my lucky, a couple of them are pretty hard hitting)

That not put you off at all ? You can't beat a slip off a skinniy for spinning BB cup mounted chainguides into the chainstay.

Whatcha mean you live in Squamish ! You must ride around a lot of skinnies

I don't know if it puts others off but it's stopped me buying one. IMO a front derailleur doesn't cut it on the battered Shore trails.

no

the reason you don't see many is because up until recently, treks full suspension was half assed 4 bar and there weren't many loyal riders. The remedy as we know it with ABP has been out for two years, and its getting more and more press.

i was about to buy fclinders remedy but someone jacked it out from underneath me. I went and test rode the basic 7 on weds and that bike is SICK. it hauls ass, does not bob, has great geo and the suspension feels great. If i get one it will have a roco air wc on it pushed.

The new Session bikes are hard to beat.

But you are already on a Nomad. I can't see any efficiency gained by switching to the Remedy unless you are under contractual obligation.

I test rode a Session 9. Its a really sick rig, but I can't say its "better" than a Nomad.

I do look forward to a ride report on the Session 88. After seeing Semenuk at the Rampage, I'm looking at an 88 with a Boxxer.

Sorry Dexter. As for the Remedy I will have to say it is one of the funnest all around bikes I have owned. Never been a Trek fan at all. They have really stepped up. I had a chance to get a Remedy 7 through my local shop to be a filler while I recovered back after my bad wreck at the US Open. I need a bike that could Climb and handle any DH ride I went on. At first I did a lot of XC on the Bike. Then after a few months when I got better, I got to really see what it could do on a DH ride. Wow was I impressed... I then realized the the air shock was holding the bike back. I put a 7.875x2.25" coil shock on it. That really made the bike feel beter. As for not having chain guide mounts I ran a LG1 on mine without the Taco. The Taco will not fit because of the way the frame is formed. The Split Pivot does help out a little with Brake Jack. Not all like a VPP or FSR linkage, but some. My bild was 31lbs. The thing I liked about it the most was it felt like a DS/Mini DH bike that could climb anything!!!! You will be very happy if you get one and change up a few parts that meet your needs.

No offense but Ive always thought skinnies were for clowns in a circus...There's only 1 trail I can think of (homebrew) with a "kinda serious" skinny on it and the trail is punched anyway.I mean come on whats the difference between riding a skinny and a curb? I ride MTB to be on dirt ;-) lol

Like I said earlier, if you do slip off a log or twat a rock with the bb cup mounted guide adapter it'll spin or maybe even make the cup come loose. Seen it happen a couple of times, Once on Original Sin ! Sucks in the middle of a ride.

If you've never had any problems good on ya ! I guess there are more skinnies on the Shore :biggrin:

FCLinder, absolutely sickest Remedy I have seen! I have been drooling over the Remedy, and remember seeing yours awhile back, and have been looking for that pic!

my buddie greg rode a remedy last year at whistler for 4 days. He rode every trail. All the nasty **** up top he had no problems with it. I was really suprised that a 6inch bike was keeping up and doing just dandy all day long.

this bike rules. don't let anyone tell you anything different. i had the opportunity to pick one up right after i got back from a week on the Shore/Whizzler last month. My first thought was that this bike built up w/ a beefcake wheelset and more FR/DH components would be the perfect Shore bike. It climbs amazingly well and descends even better. I have never ridden a more capable bike.

that being said, i'd also be curious to try a dhx or dhx coil. i dig the rp23 but have not been able to get it tuned exactly right and feel like i blow through teh travel a bit too easy.

bottom line is that this bike is wicked good...

See if you can find an '08 Remedy 9 on closeout/end of season deal. It's obviously a spendy bike but is still way less than the 2009. This will get you the 36 and save you a bunch of $$ but your friends will probably laugh at you since you'll only have XT cranks and not XTR. Loser. :biggrin:

Loved the look of the 08 and now I've just seen the geo and I've got to say wOOw! 419mm CS, 555mm TTT, 67* HA to a 13.8" BB that both can be lowered with a 7.875"x2.25" coil shock (8.0x2.25 standard).

Anybody who can speculate on how the suspension characteristics will turn out if one puts a 7.875"x2.0" shock instead, and how much travel will that give me?

You would have about 5.33" of travel. If I had kept mine I would have put Cane Creek DB. Now that would have been sick!!!!

So a shorter I-to-I wouldn't affect the suspension charachteristics in a bad way?

FCLinder with the 7.875"x2.25" coil shock, did you lose any travel from that setup? If so what was the total amount?

No, none at all. I still had a 2.25" stroke shock just like stock.

FCLinder, thanks for your reply. By any chance do you remember the size(s) of the fox mounting hardware that you used to mount the shock? Also was there any particular reason that you mounted it with the reservoir on the bottom?

Used the stock Fox mounting hardware from the Fox shock that came on the bike. The Reservoir hits the upper link mounted the right way up. The shock works both ways so its not a problem.
