vibiker: which Wright quote(s) specifically are you referencing that are more hateful to the US than Falwell, Swaggert, Robertson, etc? It's cute how you sit there demanding quotes from everyone, while providing nothing at all except allegations of unspecific instances.
For someone who appears to cling so tightly to his bible, he sure doesn't open it or read it as much as you would think.

vibiker...dude. Falwell, Hagee, et al nothing but a bunch of gas bags. They have all said something some time or another over the course of the years that makes me cringe as a believer. They like the power they have over the people that agree with and support them. No more no less.

Honestly, concerning the Dr Wright sound bites, I can agree with just about everything he said (once put in context of his whole sermon).

If you were a Christian, you would know that since Jesus came to earth in a NEW COVENANT that the Old Testament is not relevant any longer.

Perhaps these words are familiar to you?
Not totally accurate, IMHO. Jesus said he came to fulfill the law not to destroy it. Paul writes in one of the epistles in regards to the OT that the things in it (the OT) were for "our ensamples" of how to live etc. The only "Bible" the early church would have used for witnessing etc would have been the OT/Torah.

Sure, and at the same time, Jesus taught that it was no longer acts that provide salvation, but rather it is faith that will do it. With the new covenant it is no longer possible for one to earn their way into heaven. One must have faith that Jesus's sacrifice paid the debt for all your sins. The OT is about acts. The NT is about faith, and that is all you need (or at least that is my interpretation of what I hear at the Lutheran church I attend infrequently).

Me too. America™ has done some pretty lousy things in her short history.

Unfortunately many Christians have taken this to mean that they can practice hate and deceit monday through saturday and they will be forgiven on sunday.

I too have a religion based education and history with the church. It is the hypocritical actions, statements and self-righteousness that turned me away.

Anyone who half-way payed attention in history class knows that religious conflict has been the root cause of war since man could walk upright.

Not exactly.
The New Covenant that Jesus came to earth for was WRT to salvation. With that, mankind is not devoid of punishment. To say that "a Loving God" cannot do that is to say that you are smarter or know better than God.
