Hey guys im looking for a board. I would like to try a skate banana but im afraid its not for the type of riding i do. I normally ride all mtn, i try to keep out of the park because im not balanced enough in the air and i always fall. In general i just like to cruise around/ rip down the mountain. This board will mainly be used on the east coast (mtn creek) which can get pretty icey. Right now im 17years old, 160 pounds, and 6'1" with about 8 years of riding experience. Im pretty much open to any suggestions considering i dont really know what to look for but i would like to try the lib tech magne traction. I would also like to try and keep the board under $600.

check out the rome anthem. mine, while slightly broken, is still going strong on it's fourth season. definitely one of my favorite boards that i have ever ridden and it's right up your alley for riding style.

I am on an Atomic Alibi and love it. It's perenially rated as "good wood" by TWS. Don't get sucked into the "it's made by a ski company" trap. The board has been a dream.

That being said... I am also really into the idea of trying the Lib Tech board. They are doing a demo day at the start of the season here and if I like the ride I will probably grab one. If you could grab one first and pass on a review it'd be much appreciated...

I snap boards.
When I changed to Burton, at least they replace boards for free.
I am on my 3rd free Dominant. While people say the Dominant is a park board only, they are wrong IMO. The width and the true twin shape make it an awesome backcountry freestyle board. It handles big drops and powder landing well. And they are cheap.
I'd like to try the UnInc range next.

Damn, $600 for a setup? I'm a cheap bastard.

I got a new last years model with bindings and boots for $220 at Play it Again Sports.

I've been very happy the past few years w/ my magnatraction deck on the icy east coast - and yes, you can tell a difference. I've been wanting to try a banana, but can't justify a new board. But a few buddies are on bananas and love them....and this years TRS and Rider's Choice both have the reverse camber option.

Give the skate banana a try! I test rode it last season and loved it! My buddy rode it all last year mostly park, but he also rode it in powder and really really fast. From Burton the Custom is always a good choice, same with the Ride Concept TMS. Could also try the GNU Riders Choice BTX; stiffer and more all mtn than the skate banana.

For speed over pow pow, I use my Carbon Fiber 160 Heelside Stealth. For the park, I have a cheap Airwalk that's real flexy and has a great snap. I'm poor so I do what I can with what I have. Both boards were under $100

Never Summer is a must. Handmade in Denver. Go for the Legacy R, width width and flex with a wee bit extra damping.

Reverse camber on ice? Yikes.....
Its only reverse when the weight on it is unloaded to an extent. Just riding along it looks like a normal camber board.
