hey
I've got a new air cartridge for my 888 sl ata 2007
what oil do I need to put inside? (or does it come with oil from marzoochi? )
how much?
and what oil in the leg with the cartridge?
how much?

thanks.

It's not that strict. Lighter oils are good for air springs, and heavier oils are good for bushing lube.

On my boxxer (which is no different in terms of materials that rub against each other) I'm running Silkolene Pro RSF 2.5wt in the air spring (you only need 5ml), and 10wt in the lowers for bushing lube.

The easiest way to put the oil in the air cart is usually to remove the schrader valve core(/s) and syringe in 3-5ml of oil. I'm sure there will be some there already so drain before putting new oil in just in case.

As for the lubrication oil (in leg with cartridge), I'm not sure, but 30-40ml should do the trick (the boxxer only uses 15-20ml, it has a little less volume though) - if there is no recommendation from a manual that's what I'd go with.

Hope that helps.

Marzocchi recommends 7.5 wt. I just recently changed the oil in my 888 ata and it feels awesome. Super easy process and way better to do it yourself than to pay the shop nazis.

I'm pretty sure the 7.5wt recommendation is for the damping oil (and has been for years with marzocchi). Either way like I said it's not that strict so it won't be a big deal if you just go with whatever you have.

I've changed the oil to 5wt and it feel so much better
I'm only 70kg so I want the fork to be super soft.
but after I've got the new air cartridge, it feels like there is a noise of metal rubbing on metal...
so maybe I need more oil in it?
and if you put just 20ml of oil, how does it lubricate all the internals? (in the leg and\or in the air cartridge?)

I know their is 80ml of oil in the leg with the air cartridge.
but how much oil is there in the cartridge itself?

Air cartridges don't usually run much oil, it's just a tiny amount for o-ring lubrication. Usually the o-rings are all silicone-greased on installation, and then ~5ml of oil is used in the chamber (or in each chamber if there are multiple air chambers) to help maintain lubrication.

The 888 shouldn't be any different, if there are metal on metal rubbing noises then I'd inspect everything individually to find the cause (especially if it doesn't go away). Eg. cycling stanchion by hand, cycling air cartridge by hand (out of fork), etc.
