I really love that new section right after lower ripper that's a little DH section but is wide open, not in the woods. Looks like the pics of California DH runs that I've seen posted on various forums. More sections like that would be cool, but not really sure where they could go. They probably take a lot of work to create so I'd understand if it wasn't on the agenda.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE "NEW" DH TRAIL?

At the beginning of the year I swear they said a new DH trail was going in and never did. Don't say that IX is it either cause that thing can be ridden on a rigid.

diablo stepped it up and did a great job, but i would like to see some newDH trails, not that there isnt enough, but i really like to pin rocky trails as opposed to tempest and dominion.

a few features id like to see.
a huge steep berm(kind of like a 45 degree downward helix type){think roller coaster}
teeter totter and gerbil wheel?
some more high speed jumps. not tables but some sick step downs and *not on their own trails*
and finally a new tech drop

here was my idea...
i would love to see a north shore section put into the woods that is near lower ripper. just switchback bridges going over the river and some high technical stuff and some more ridiculous dh trails that are more like stalker. i think diablo should switch their focus from crazy sick wooden park logic stuff over to more downhill oriented trails. thats just my two cents

More big jumps please! That step up is cool, but you barely get any air... More big jumps please...

Gotta' be steeper than stalker, that trail is fun, but it's pretty flat as DH trails go.

I wish they could justify running the Granite Peak lift (maybe someday if attendance is high enough), that's where all the really steep terrain is, I wouldn't even mind hiking out of the bottom if they cut some trails over there.

If they put in some A-line/DM/Crank it up style step ups and made some more tight tech downhill with loose berms and roots and rocks and other rough stuff, I might start going back to diablo.

Some more high-speed pedal sections (remove some of those silly 6" log drops across some trails spaced too close together).

Groom some of those really loose small rocks off the ski slopes which lead into trails.

Something fast, long and flowy would be great. See here...

well we have to remember that by contract diablo is not allowed to build on the ski slopes. thats why the 48 straight DS course was plowed and thats why they have to rebuild the red bull step down every year. so the idea of a slopestyle park is kind of out of the question.

what about downhill trails with rocks and roots. It's very easy to make just apply take to ground and move the leaves and twigs. Anyone who dissagrees about downhill should apply foot mouth.....it would be much easier than building elaborate 30 second trails.

Some challenging stuff would be nice. All the drops are pretty tame IMO. There should be some features that you need to seriously commit to. Not stuff you can roll off at any speed you want and land fine. Believe me all that stuff is a lot of fun to ride, but they should have some more stuff like Highland. Even if it's not that tough, some intimidating features that require some more advanced skill (and testicular fortitude) would be nice.

Features/trails added to Diablo during the 2006 and 2007 seasons:

Phantom Drop, Flume Drop, Dom's Denial, three Progression Drops, two wall rides, a re-worked Alpine, Tempest, Anthem, Improved Triple Drop, Victory... probably missed a few, but quite a bit to add to a park in two seasons...

Additions in 2008:

Greenhorn, Deviant, re-worked Upper Dominion including a new wood feature and a new metal feature and a new dirt jump, two metal features on Reality Show, two metal features on Salvation, the step-up by Crap Chute, IndyCross, Das Wall, the new sections added for the 4th Domination course (the one complimented on in an earlier post and the Careless Whisper to Waterboy connector), the addition of Freelap to race courses and a few trails... and hosting the most successful US Open to date and a nationally televised event. We also hosted more events this season than any other season to date.

Maybe we did overpromise in May (by one "new dh" line), but I doubt you can say we underdelivered by October.

I think it would be bad ass to have a drop off the side of crap chute. Instead of taking that sharp left, it would be sweet if there was a massive drop if you continue straight. If all the bushes were cleared, I am sure there could be a landing built. Just an idea haha.

an air dome is just unrealistic. a new dh trail would be very cool, a really fast one, with some nice tight switchbacks! some bigger jumps would be cool as well, like a nice step down and/or some big hip jumps. really i just want faster trails, like wc pace.

Diablo does have a lot of nice rock gardens, but here... you've hit the nail on the head... With the trails having not much risk, it's kind of like putting a governer on a formula car, it just limits all the potential fun of the car and the track...

There is already a ton of stuff for people learning too, so that can't be made as an excuse.

But anyways, diablo has done almost accounted for everything they have said. Diablo is a fun mountain, but if you hit the trails a few times a summer (I go about 6-10 times a summer), they tend to get a little old. But big jumps are just fun time after time, like that step up, same with drops and gnarly terrain (diablo has a good amount) and high speeds.

what about midget clowns as judges on lower dominion? They can give jelly beans to the gnarliest freeriders.

Seriously, Ive never gone to diablo and had a bad time, excluding the weather. Im grateful to get to cruise down a mountain with crazy shizzle all over to keep my skills improving. Im sure my season pass will be money well spent. Keep up the outstanding work diablo.

I agree. I also think a lot of you guys need to spend time on the "forgotten" trails.

My hope is that they do cut a few old school downhill trails.

Sure, it would be nice to get some of those HOT girls from the water park to hand out water bottles to us (but only wearing bikinis) BUT

the truth of the matter is - we want more of DROPS, BRIDGES, FLOWY sections that will make us talk about it all week when we're at work or home - wishing the weekend would finially arrive.

Mostly all the trails, especially the newer stuff, is well thought out and really fun to ride. But it's time to focus on going bigger with everything out there - all the new bikes/suspension - put it to the test.

Have The Race course always open just for the racers (keep them happy). Make a run for Step-ups and Jumps (keep that group happy). And make a section that just consists of Drops - big and small (no bailouts).

It's all about having fun - and Diablo still has potential to make it the best park to ride (sorry, but Highland Park is the best by far - just not the drive to get there).

Whatever, Diablo decides to do, PLEASE add some newer trails/runs and read the posts - us riders know what we want

Couple things about your post:

1. You said we all want more "DROPS, BRIDGES, FLOWY SECTIONS". However, several people stated in this thread that they'd like to see more natural or old school DH trails.

2. Haven't been to Highland, but there's no consensus that it's the best park in the east. From what I've read and videos I've seen, Highland is a much more freeride oriented park, while diablo is a mix of DH and FR. It seems like diablo just has more variety, especially given the fact that there are only about ten runs at Highland.

3. You said that "we riders know what we want" but your post pretty much named everything you could find at a bike park. Seems a bit unrealistic. Your only suggestion for improving the downhills is to "keep the racecourse open". Whatever that means. Maybe you're talking about the US Open course, I don't know.

Bottom line, you're a little misguided if you think you speak for all Diablo riders in wanting more FR elements at the park. This fact, combined with the fact that you think Highland is a far superior park leads me to think that you're all about FR and don't really care about the DH side of things. Diablo is a mix of both of these elements and so are the people who ride there.

As for my opinion... I think the diablo crew did a great job this season. I've already got my season pass for next year and I'm stoked.
