She arrived safely yesterday - always a fun site to come home to - a frame box waiting at your door.

I wish it were a bit sunnier out:

New Head Tube Logo:

Same classic downtube stickers!

Details:

Dig this sticker too:

Messy work area:

She'll be featuring a Reba SL UTurn:

Some additional work still needs to be done, but she's getting closer.

Aktion called the color Mop Handle Blue. It looks like Indigo to me.

I think that's what I'll call her - "Indigo" she is!

Still have a bit to go on the build.

My 32T Chainring I bought (new) won't fit on my XT cranks. Gotta get one that fits and then just run cable and housing for the front and rear derailleur and she'll be ready to rock and roll.

Do the bolt tabs on the chainring not clear the thicker part of the spider? A file and a couple minutes of time can fix that. I have had to file some chainrings and bash guards to get them to fit new xt and xtr cranks.

New rings mated to old cranks - means some filing of the rings - yep.

Or finding a friend who has the new cranks who can use them in exchange for some sweet X9 triggers for this build. ;) :)

Status Report - Update - she's done!!

So we got her finished up on Friday night, but the weekend was crazy busy. Got home tonight, snapped a few photos and took her out for her maiden shakedown ride. Good times! Bike handled great, the Reba U-Turn rocked on it, and I had big grins for the short ride on some local trails right down the street. Quick jaunt but enough time to get a good feel for her. And she feels real good!

Real Real Good.

She's set up with a little extra cable and housing so that different sized (taller) riders than me will have some flexibility in stem/handlebar set-up/choice. I dig her with the Origin 8 bars, but some might prefer flat bars or low risers (we can accommodate!). Also room for longer stems for taller guys and/or gals. 2x9 drivetrain with XT bb and cranks set up 32:22 with a bashguard, 11:34XT cassette, SRAM X9 triggers paired up to a SRAM 9.0 rear derailleur, Syncross hoops, Hayes Mags with Razor rock levers with 8" rotors (She's a Trail Bike after all!) Reba U Turn, Thomson stem and post, Origin 8 Space Bars, Pedros Grips, Exiwolf in back, Mountain King in front. Surprisingly good combo tonight! Overall just a fun solid 29er trail bike!!

Parting "Butt" Shot (pun intended)

Cheers,

Mark

Awesome. Super nice. Is this your own personal ride or a demo? If it's yours, I might be interested in it when you move on to something else.

Was the frame designed to be used with a 100mm fork?
I'd say yeah - sort of - I think it was designed with the idea that it will work great at 100mm but also will be plenty fine if a rider wants a more XC feel to it with 80mm of travel.

The bike features a REBA SL UTurn so folks can set it anywhere from 100mm to get that quick trail bike feel, or all the way down to 70mm if they desire for a super quick XC feel to it. I figured this fork was a good fork to utilize for the role this bike will be playing as a demo bike.

With that said - I dig it best in 100mm mode for general trail riding.

So he prefers the steeper head tube angles...that's awsome

The Butt isn't a "stock" frame? It's custom?
Stock = suggested geometry. Can easily be tweeked and modified to customer preference.

It isn't like the EWR OWB 29ers where Eastern Woods Research commissioned a "batch" of frames from Bilenky.

Monkey Butts are built as ordered and thus can be modified/customized etc. IN addition the customer has the choice of selecting the powdercoat color etc. etc.

So if someone digs what the stock numbers are - Ted will build to those. If they want some modifications, Ted can accommodate those wishes.

Like the Sinister Simon bar. It's a model available Through Sinister. It is Hand-Built, but not custom (well MINE is heh heh). whereas Ted will free the jig for $150...not too shabby!

A few pics from yesterday's ride.

I took her out Thursday morning for a little Pre-Turkey ride action. A few pics from the ride. Such a great morning to be out on the bike!
