Interesting.
doc said:
The new frame is many pounds lighter at 9.8 pounds with the shock, Ti spring, rear axle and floating brake mount
9 inch rising rate travel from 9.5” x 3” shock
True Temper Supertherm double butted 4130 tubing
Frame weight: 9.8 pounds with Avalanche 9.5 x 3 shock, 450 lb Ti spring, rear axle, floating brake mount
Complete bike weight as pictured: 38.1 pounds
Head angle: 63.5 deg
BB height: 13.5 inch
Chainstay: 16.5 inch
Wheelbase: 46.2 inch
Fast and nimble: yes
Bottomless travel: yes
Pedal bob: none
Brake jack: none

This is actually close to the bike dreamed of, high pivot, jackshaft that is light.
HA seems a little slack for me, but meh.

Very very nice. After the teaser shot of the frame i had a bit different picture of the bike in my head. But this looks very good. A rewamped modern version of the racelink is nice.
And weight, that is sick. 17,2kg with dh tires, steel frame and bmw cranks! Sick!

Sweet bike. It stinks we have to wait six months to buy one. The price will not be cheap I am guessing 3,500. But when doc is running the show it comes out great. Heres to the real brooklyn bikes!!!

A modern race link(kind of) yes please.I am thinking many people will want to own one of these works of art. Will supply meet the demand? i hope so for all those riders checking their bank statements as i type this.
That is one nice looking steed.

Supercalifrigginawesome!!! I was worryed the Doc would have become a fashion whore an buld a bike with a gay idler wheel (imo) instead of the jackshaft setup.

Try not to be so upset Skidders. It will all work out.

PTW, you made me laugh with the fashionista assumptions about Doc. He'd go hungry before caving to trends that don't comply with his high performance standards.

I hope everyone takes a moment to read the interview too. Lots of good info in there.

I'd love to try that thing. BB seems a bit low with 9in of travel. Are there no pedal clipping rocks in Utah?
Doesn't actually look as low as the 13.5" quoted to me from the pics.

All i can say is Wow !

foolishly i thought i was mentally prepared to lay eyes on Doc's new creation and be "kinda" happy. In the back of my mind i expected to see a RL again. Which i've owned in the past and i liked alot but i would be nothing new to me. Just another RL, this time made under the new company - which really was the part that excited me the most.

But all i can say is Wow ! I am soo stoked. the bike is beautiful. Im blown away. Its like receiving your first left-handed stranger ... how can something so routine be this fresh and new ? I can see & hear the whispering and finger pointing at the lift lines already.

This thread will document the proliferation of superco and the new DH sled just like the "bmw thread" saw many of us buy and enjoy one or more bmw's. So i look forward to looking back to this first page of the superco thread and remembering that today was the first time i ever saw my new bike.

Joel you're making me feel sentimental.

BuckoW, thus far it's not an issue but we're still in testing so we'll see how it goes.

This is a work of art! I've ridden the RL for years, and that bike rocks. With the refinments this frame has over the RL, I bet it rides perfect. Soo looking forward to check one out in the flesh.
Doc is one awesome frame builder, that's for sure!

from the Supercrayon thread:

awesome bike. i like the refinements. why was the pivot point raised, just for packaging?

will the geometry numbers change before production, or is that it? I'm terrified of a 13.5 inch BB on a 9" travel bike on the east coast. slightly less worried about the super slack HA.

I have another Q... is Avalanche going to be the only shock option again? NTTAWT.
i'm betting not, judging by the fact that it has a piggyback on it already, instead of a remote. I'm willing to bet that was one of the design goals, freeing up shock choice.

edit: whoa, no gustavs? are those louise or something?

The shorter stays and longer front end sound very promising too. Shorter rear ends make for nice snappy bikes in corners... This makes me think that maybe some of that minilink RnD didn't completely go unused after all =D This is so exciting!!!! Super clean rig, awesome work!!! And to think that everyone thought the folks up @ Superco were taking time off... Ha!

I would guess the higher pivot point has something to do with shortening of the stays. If you've ever really looked closely at a Race Link swingarm. There is really no way to make it shorter and still maintain strength & clearance. Raising the pivot would automatically shorten the stays due to to static angle.

However, with the new placement of the shock, Doc may have be able to make the stays themselves physically shorter. But I doubt that's the case, since placing the pivot higher would shorten the static chainstay length, in as of itself.

Of course the net result is you still have a a high pivot, so you have a VERY rearward travel path (original Link travels back over 2.5"). I would guess the Superco would be even more rearward. So having short static stays, seems somewhat mute.

My guess is, people who don't like bikes with variable length wheelbases, won't like the Superco. Personally, I love 'em. I've always felt the Race Link was an EXTREMELY nimble bike (easily a match for my 06 DHR), but had awesome square edge performance and was extremely stable deep in its travel (when you need stability most, like after landing a big jump) due to the lengthening of the wheel base.

I think the new bike looks great. Personally, here is primarily what I'd like to see different.

Headangle: 64-64.5 degrees. (personal preference, I don't like super slack bikes)

Raise that BB!!!! Yeah, the Race Link was to high, but I fear this has gone in the other direction. Trying to get this through the rock gardens at Angel Fire is just gonna be to tough for a hack like me. Hooking a pedal hard = instantaneous stop and launch. I'd like to see around 14.25". I really don't get the SUPER low BB trend. Very few riders can push a bike to the limits of physics that would require a 13.5" BB.

Maybe extending the seattube height a little and adding a "taco" style brace. A lot of big/tall guys ride the link cause of it's durability and getting enough seatpost extension not only looks dorky, but is downright impossible for the really tall guys. Keep in mind, the Race Link has something like a 14" seattube and the Superco looks the same. I think the segment of the market that needs this short of a seattube in VERY tiny. No pun intended.

What I really like?

The longer front end.

Ability to use different shocks. (Although I love the AVY, but the DHS is the heaviest shock around. Being able to put a Chubbie on there, solves that problem and still keeps the AVY).

The lower BB. But not so low.

Of course the lighter weight. That's a gimmie.

ITS STILL CHROME MOLY. (Thank god, the fact that Doc even considered the possibility of going aluminum is somewhat disturbing, glad he made the right choice).

Anyway, that's my take. But take in with a grain of salt. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

But YEAH, I want one. Good job Doc and Terry. :thumb:

So what is different between a regular RL and this besides the shock orientation?

Edit: I could have waited one minute to see that all outlined for me..

Hahahaha, how did this little comment go by unnoticed?

Back on topic the new bike looks very, very nice. I think maybe the bottom bracket on these bikes always looks deceptively high because there's no chainring surrounding the BB.

Oooh, I want to ride that! I haven't been a huge fan of the jack shaft set up, mostly because of the weight involved, but under 10 lbs - are you kidding me? I really want to try out a super slack, super low, lightweight DH race bike. That sounds a really fun combo. I wonder if I can get one in pink?

Or you could have read the interview on Dirt Mag :bonk:

what impresses me the most is the diet... under 10 lbs with shock and floating arm  steel is real!!!!!

That bike looks pretty cool. I don't know much about the Brooklyn bikes. I just know they look pretty busy. Were you guys riding this bike around at the local Utah races? If I knew you were on one of these, i would've payed more attention.

Threepointtwo......I don't know if they'll have a frame to match your baggy gangsta thong.

amazing work. that's an impressive weight - esp w/ jackshaft / profiles / floater, etc. still some weenie-ing potential with that build as well. looking forward to some ride reviews; should be a monster. i was sorta hoping i wouldn't like this one so much; up until now there wasn't really anything out there that had me contemplating a new purchase. alas, another bambino on the way = no new bike this year. :sadness: anyways, great work guys - that's a beautiful bike. wish you all the best putting this one into production - gonna be a busy year!

Very slick. No two ways about it.
That pivot is a mile high. You could coast over a horse with that thing.
Impressive weight, too.
I'm curious about how the new jackshaft is put together. Is it reverse compatible with the older design? My chainrings are starting to wear out.
