I didn't realize the publisher of Mountain Bike Action and Hi-Torque magazines supported Prop 8.

The magazine sucks anyway, but now you have a good reason to stop buying the MBFiction.

Wow, I guess MBA isn't gay...maybe just closeted gay tho. I'd love to see the 'cool' tag line on the next cover: SUPER SHOOTOUT - PROPOSITION 8 VERSUS SPECIALIZED DEMO 8!

The owner of Hi Torque (Roland Hinz) is incredibly religious from what I understand. No big surprise there. To actually have your magazine take a side however, is ridiculous.

It certainly explains a lot though.
I have never detected a religious or anti-gay slant from MBA.

Nevertheless, if you are against Prop 8, boycotting businesses owned by supporters of Prop 8 tells them that if you want to privately hate gays, that's your business, but if you want to back it up with money, then I am going to be sure not to spend mine with your business.

Hi torque took the moral stand years ago, not religious or anti-gay, most of the stuff that got cut was scantly clad women, so no good Marzocchi ads and such.

Whatever MBA still wants DH to be spandex and fire roads, so they don't get my money anyways.

One more rant on MBA is the use of standard instead of metric weight, nobody but them does that. WTF?

You mean Mountain Bike Fiction?

Someone should check and see if Park Tools kicked in any on this as well.

Beats me, I don't read it.

I thought every MBFiction included these lines:

"The bike pedaled extremely well" - whether it was an 18lb hardtail or a 50lb dh bike
"The handling was crisp and responsive"
"Descending on this bike inspired confidence"
"Suspension was flex-free but plush"

Then the reviewer throws in some nitpick to make sure MBF doesn't seem "biased", or they review the bike from an one-time advertiser and bash it hard.

That's like saying "you should boycott all Dennys because there are a 2 Dennys employees in Kentucky that hate asians"....
This is THE PUBLISHER. The owner of hi-torque, not an employee. Boycotting his magazine hurts his pocket book, the same pocket book that donated $12k to help take away people's civil liberties.

I'm saying boycott a business whose owner supports hate.

If the Denny's owner was a member of the KKK, I would never step into a Denny's again.

I see your point.... then does it logically follow that knowingly employing people who "hate" makes the employer a purpetuator of hate?

btw... I voted no on prop H-8

No.

An employer is not responsible for their employees behaviour. An employer is indeed responsible for his charitable donations that help foster hate and intolerance.

This means my money may very well go to fostering hate if I spend it with your business, therefore, I will not support your business.

Frankly, I don't care if someone hates gays or Asians, as long he keeps his opinion to himself. So if a company employs a racist, I don't care as long as I am treated like everyone else.

However, if you endorse a political movement that supports hate with $$$, then I very much care how I spend my money with your business.

As someone who at one time read 11 bike magazines a month (7 mountain, 3 road, 1 industry), I have a sizable budget for mags, but now zero for MBA/RBA.

Took the idea right out of my head. (um, what? )

Those are the people that need to hear that their advertising budgets are better spent elsewhere.

MBA is not anti-gay. Look at Jimmie Mac, he is basically a chick with a dick.

I have been boycotting that crap for a few years now. It is all BS. 'Ask RC' is nothing but RC's retarded opinions, face it the guy can't know everything so why act like you do. The last time I was reading his nonsense he was selling Giant and Santa Cruz like it was his job(which it probably was). Every little grom that asked a what bike for me question he said buy this Giant or that Santa Cruz. F^ck OFF RC!

RC: I've been an avid reader of MBA as long as I have been riding, which is in the late 1980's (see 47lb steel rigid Schwinn xc bike). I am deeply disappointed in MBA and its publisher Hi-Torque for contributing $12,000 from the company, to the Yes on 8 initiative in California. Your companies' willingness to take away the rights of people is appaling.
I am no longer going to be buying this, or any other Hi-Torque publication, and will be informing those who do that Hi-Torque supported Prop. 8. I will also be sending letters to those companies that advertise in MBA, letting them know that I will not be purchasing their products while they advertise in MBA.

My question is this:
How can you support this? Does it not bother you to know that your work goes to supporting bigotry?

Goodbye RC, I will miss your wit.

So you'll be buying tektro brakes now and running suntour Epicon suspension products right?
Well he can run formula brakes and bos suspension ;)

About the whole MBA. It seems strange that there is so much talk about boycotting the whole magazine while apparently almost noone reads it here. Most ppl who read it are weekend warrior daddies wanting to lose weight so the chance that the whole message will have any impact is rather small.
Though I'm not saing I'm not supporting the whole idea. Will spread the word as MBA is the only english language magazine that can be normaly bought in this 3rd world country so still quite some ppl buy it.
