so we took in a stray and he is a totally awesome puppy, but we sadly cannot keep him because denver is a bunch of fascists and banned "pit bulls", so anyone in the denver metro area looking for a puppy? we just want to see him go to a good home.

the dog's name is fred, he is ~8months old, 49lbs, neutered, all up to date on shots, great with kids and other dogs, and has an amazing personality. very smart, we got him well trained on the leash in a week.

please let me know w/ any interest. we really would hate to see him wind up in a shelter.

thanks.

Some of us who live in the Denver area are glad. Sorry I've seen the arguments, but I happen to be a resident who agrees with the ban and would like to see it spread into the suburbs. Flame away. This is me not caring.

we took him in, unaware of the ban (just moved to denver a year ago, after all of the uproar circa. 2004 when the ban was re-instated).

definately respect your opinion, no flaming here. there are definately 2 sides to every argument.

i do think the common denominator of all attacks is the owner, opposed to the breed however.

i just want to see a really nice dog wind up in a nice home, where it is legal to have them. hopefully you can respect that......

Thats really sad. My gran has had staffies for as long as I can remember and they haven't been any trouble at all. Our family has had Staffies, Pit bulls and bull terriers for years and have never had any trouble with them bar one, he wasn't so great with children but we've had more trouble from breeds such as Bull-bull/bull mastifs. We just got a pit bull/ staffie cross and she's amazing, I would almost go so far as to say she is the smartest dog we've had. She is also very territorial and protective of us which is great. I cant see the problems with so called "pitbull" breeds, if they are brought up right, they are great, just as is any dog except those useless toy breeds:busted:

Pit Bull bans are a Joke.

Lets put this into perspective. We are banning Pit Bulls because they have had violent tendencies. well we are basically condemning a breed because of a few bad OWNERS and fewer bad dogs. These Dogs can be bad as can my Dog however banning/destroying a life because a person whom purchases it is irresponsible is not the answer it is an easy answer.

Look at it this way a Pit bull is a race essentially whom has a bad reputation because of some other whom have been highly publicized because of being taught negative things NOT because they are born evil. These Dogs are popular because of their looks with people I guess whom want a tuff mean dog sad, but true.

What we are doing is basically condemning them to death. So if this is the way every one feels there are certain races in the news that sadly get more publicly then other not because there crime rate is high its just because the eye of the news etc is heavily fixed on it. So what im thinking those whom agree with banning KILLING these dogs do you also agree to Banning certain races of people because a few people have made and are making a bad name for them. This is a harsh comparison however I think it’s realistic hopefully I didn’t offend anyone.

we need stronger regulations towards the owner ship of some breeds of dogs however a person who will care for and train the dog correctly and can prove that should be allowed. I had to jump through some hoops to get my dog and I was happy to do it because it should be if I could handle the dog.

i dont see how banning them is condemning them to get killed. Does the ban say that if you own a pit bull, it will be taken away from you and shot?

its because of their stupid owners that this rule is in effect in some places.

but i will give a golf clap to the TS for bringing in a stray dog....good for you brotha

What is the humane society going to do with say 25 dogs who are not legally allowed to be adopted. Some may end up shipped out, but alot will die for the sole reason that some idiot's who have owned these dogs should have been the ones put down.

Well said.

Currently JeffCo is one of the only counties around here that still allows pitbulls and the like. We got both of our dogs at the Table Mountain Animal Center just outside of Golden. Probably 85% of the dogs in there are pitbulls, solely because they can't be brought anywhere else.

So worst case scenario, you can alway take the pooch to TMAC and hopefully he will end up in a good home. TMAC is a great place and they people do good work.

the denver law is that the dog will be immediately removed and euthanized immediately. aurora (a supurb)'s is that the dog will be removed and placed in a foster program out of state. which to me seems even weirder, in effect they are saying that the dogs are a terrible nuisance that are dangerous to all, and have no chance of being acceptible pets. but they are fine if they live out of state. how strange.

anyhow, thanks for all the bumps. and thanks for the table rescue recommendation. i work right over there (at green mountain sports... stop by anytime w/ or w.o the dog :D )

I propose a ban on cars with 300+ hp because with the wrong OWNER they can become deadly missles aimed at helpless humans.

Hey, is that middle-schooler so rotten because they have bad genes or because the parent is a tool? Nature vs Nurture?

I adopted an abused/neglected Pit mix momma from our shelter and she is the smartest and most well-behaved dog I know. Could I train her to be a problem?...I'm sure I could. She's smart, she's powerful, and the breed has the potential. But that is ultimately controlled by me, the owner.

Pretty much anything can be dangerous when controlled by an idiot. People rarely have the balls to put the blame on the real cause of the problem.

I agree. But idiots are attracted to pitbulls like flys on $hit which does not help the cause.

I guy that lives down the road from me has 2 nasty pitbulls that he has had since pups, I am sure they could have been nice but he treats them like livestock and they are nasty now. I am waiting for the day to run them over in the street or to shoot them.

No sweeter and better dog then a pitbull.
People who say different have never owned one or have only had experiance with bad owners, not bad dogs.

They will in fact as stated above lick you to death though... Dangerous bastards.

Such vicious killers they are... :disgust1:

thank God you Coloradians are so smart. The world is a better place without killers like this.....Idiots.

PB are the most friendliest, loyal and family oriented of all the breeds in my book. My Bishon Friese plays with my boss's PB all day and my dog gets the better of him. He was raised with love from day one and he's a teddy-bear. Euthanizes the fake ass gangster owners that think it's cool to pretend their dogs are fighting dogs. What doesn't help is these stupid mags popping up showing the dogs in a menacing stance with huge chains and the owners with shaved heads and football jersey's.

If I weren't many states away I would pick him up. Just got a new place and always wanted a pup to follow me on the bike.

I have to agree with you all as well. My parents purchased a Pit puppy 3 days after I was born. Grew up with him for 12 years and he couldn't have been a better dog. Extremely polite and nice, and very smart. In fact we had a log fall out of the fireplace once, and he pushed the log back in with his nose. We have had far more problems in our family with our more recent dogs who are of different breeds, but trained in the same way and brought up with the same love. Pits have a rap of being dogs that can be dangerous (which they certainly can be), so idiots who know nothing about raising a dog just want something that can protect them. Simple as that, I'm sure if labs or any other dog for that matter had the same rap similar things would happen. Any dog can be treated like **** and trained to be aggressive towards people, it isn't very hard. I would take the pup in a second, unfortunately I'm all the way out in Vermont. Good luck to you, and sorry to hear about the impending loss.

allright, well that ludicrous that they euthanize them

agree'd with most of whats been said, most of the violent dogs are the ones brought up by "joe -thinkshestoughasnails- tardshank" because he thinks a pitbull with a chain around his neck in the back of his lifted but never seen dirt chevy will match his ultra-generic tribal tattoo around his upper arm. he leaves it outside, doesnt pay attention to it other then when the dogs being bad to get his attention and doesnt feed it enough. the dog becomes aggressive and then attacks when Mr. Tardshank slaps it on the nose for wreaking his football. It reacts with aggression because it has been taught from its owner that you act with aggression towards aggression. any dog will act like this, but its usually pitbulls put in the position. One of the shop owners here had a Purebreed Rotty that he kept in the store, thing was like 4 feet tall at his back and named Zeus and would sit in front of you and wimper untill you petted him. this from one of the most violent dog breeds you can find portrayed. Similar argument, 90% rider/ 10% bike

Best of luck man. Maybe try the local craigslist. My girlfriend has worked in a vet clinic for over 5 years now and she is convinced its all the owner. Not the dog.

Here is Charlotte. Most amazing and loving dog I have ever had the pleasure of living with.

Im really glad to see people whom agree with me.

Seems some places are actually starting to edit the laws against PB's because little to no change in animal (specifically dogs) attacks occur when PB's have been taken out of the picture. Its actually kinda funny that a Law with about 0.00000009 percent of credibility and obviously a lower percent in research could be in so many places in the world. I do have to say im not a PB persin I love my ACD however any dog that get put down because ignorance on the laws part or a stupid owner really gets me.

Banning APBT that is real easy! When dogs are at the pound and they are not sure what type it is more times than not if it fits into the right build it will be labeled a PIT mix! Here is our murdering child eater!

Ignorance is bliss. "The arguments" are not even difficult to understand but I guess they escaped your apparently limited comprehension.

It just amazes me that people in Colorado (Denver area) have decided it is ok to put down a breed of dogs. I agree with most everyone on here that it is the owners who decide how a dog is brought up and behaves. Here is my Dog, not a pit, he is actually a black lab. I got him when he was 3 - Literally took him from an abusive owner who I witnessed personally beating the hell out of the dog. He was very aggressive, but the minute I took him from this a-hole who beat him he took to me like a fat kid to candy. Never leaves my side to this day and is still a little protective - he has to trust someone before he will stop barking at them, but by being loved instead of beaten has become a big sweatheart of a dog.

Sounds like the dog in question in this thread has a good owner, just by the comments you have made I can tell you really care about the dog. I hope you have some luck in finding a good home. If it was me, the cops would have to come pry the dog from my cold dead fingers. You would see me and the dog in a white bronco being chased by the police:biggrin:

I'd love to get it, but the drive from SC to Denver is a little much. But hopefully we are getting ready to get an American Bulldog pup, he's brindle and white, just a few weeks old. Went to the kennel and met his parents and the handlers (owners), the parents were sweet and very friendly not only to myself and the wife, but to our 2.5yo twin boys. The father was HUGE, weighed 130lbs, and would not leave one of the twins side. It was weird, even the dogs owner mentioned that he never seen him attach himself to someone like that before, let alone a 2.5 yo.

Hopefully someone will come and get that pup from you, there is nothing to worry about with these dogs as long as you know where they come from and how their parents were raised. I was told that if the parents were raised aggressive, chances are the pups will be somewhat aggressive as well. I don't know how true that is as I'm not a breeder, but it seems to make sense.
