I am not surprised in the least.
I am not surprised in the least.
Hey, it's money, they guy is hungry, got a family to feed, and a mistress. Prophylactics cost money. For trying to sell a Senate seat. Really? How dumb do you have to be?
1 down, NaN to go
fvcking corrupt republicans...
You have on occasion demonstrated the capacity for logical thought and rational discussion. Would you consider exercising it rather than trolling and whining and declaring the world to be coming to an end?i'm trolling on behalf of n8
yeah, & we'll promise to stop buggering little boyz"The American people voted to restore integrity and honesty in Washington, D.C., and the Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history,"
At only one arrest in 2 years, she may actually be on track for that. Not like the bar was particularly high...this reflects poorly on nancy pelosi, who in 2006 after the dems took control of congress said:yeah, & we'll promise to stop buggering little boyz
right, because the House leader controls an IL gov. who was just convicted on failure to disclose certain gifts he received while Senator from Alaska??this reflects poorly on nancy pelosi, who in 2006 after the dems took control of congress said:yeah, & we'll promise to stop buggering little boyz
wm jefferson, louisiana: indicted for bribery, racketeering, & other chargesAt only one arrest in 2 years, she may actually be on track for that. Not like the bar was particularly high...
and nancy herself is full of it when it comes to being ethical, when last year this came up about trying to get even more congressional perks on the public dime:The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Rangel, who was using his office to help raise money for the Charles B. Rangel Center at City College of New York, met with Eugene M. Isenberg, CEO of Nabors Industries, an oil-drilling company, about donating to the center on the same day in Feb. 2007 that the Ways and Means Committee was meeting on a tax loophole that saved Nabors Industries tens of millions of dollars annually. Rangel opposed removing the loophole, and Isenberg eventually pledged to give $1 million to the Rangel Center.
and thenPentagon officials are bracing for a fight with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over her desire to allow lawmakers adult children to tag along on taxpayer-funded travel for free.
Pelosi wants them to be able to fill the role of lawmakers spouses when the latter are unable to make a trip because of health issues or work commitments.
****
One of the things she was praised for when she came in was her sweeping reforms on gifts and travel, said Craig Holman of Public Citizen. It is very disheartening if she is, in fact, backsliding on this.
and from last march while at the reigns this took placeHouse Speaker Nancy Pelosi has directed nearly $100,000 from her political action committee to her husband's real estate and investment firm over the past decade, a practice of paying a spouse with political donations that she voted to ban last year.
and from last february:Three months after promising to curtail spending on pet legislative projects, House Democrats have salted the Iraq emergency spending bill with $3.7 billion for farm interests that make significant donations to Democrats.
from last june:Eager to shore up their fragile House and Senate majorities, congressional Democrats have enlisted their committee chairmen in an early blitz to bring millions of dollars into the party's coffers, culminating in a late-March event featuring House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and 10 of the powerful panel chairs.
In the next 10 days alone, Democratic fundraisers will feature the chairmen of the House's financial services panel and the House and Senate tax-writing committees. Senate Democrats also plan a fundraising reception during a major gathering of Native Americans in the capital Tuesday evening, an event hosted by lobbyists and the political action committee for tribal casinos, including those Jack Abramoff was paid to represent.
Critics deride the aggressive fundraising push as the kind of business as usual that voters rejected at the ballot box last November--particularly the practice of giving interest groups access to committee chairmen in exchange for sizable donations--but Democrats are unapologetic. . . .
The tactics are hardly new. Republicans aggressively used their committee chairmen--and the promise of access to them--to raise money from interest groups and lobbyists during the party's 12 years of congressional control. They tracked donations closely and pressed lobbying firms to hire GOP lobbyists through the "K Street Project," promising "intimate" issue briefings with the chairmen in return for big donations.
from last march:House Appropriations Chairman David R. Obey, D-Wis., today outlined how earmarks will be disclosed before conference, and warned that if Republicans "demagogue" the issue there might be no earmarks in the fiscal 2008 bills.
and from last february:Democrats are using the same tricks as President Bush in their rival plan to balance the federal budget by 2012: ignoring long-term costs of the war in Iraq and the need to fix a tax law that threatens unsuspecting middle-class families.
Bush used phantom savings to claim he can balance the budget while extending his tax cuts into the future. Democrats would use that money to increase spending on education, health research and other domestic programs while claiming to be budget balancers.
from last may:House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has a great vacation planned for May: He's going to a fancy golf & beach resort in Puerto Rico where people get "sensually awakened." And he's taking a planeload of lobbyists . . . enough to fill 137 luxury hotel suites.
Doesn't that sound nice? But unlike Tom DeLay's unethical golf trip to Scotland with Jack Abramoff, Steny's seaside lobbyist orgy is completely okay because the lobbyists aren't paying Hoyer himself--they're paying Hoyer's PAC.
and b/c murtha wanted the house majority leader seat, he played nice:Several provisions in a Senate-passed lobbying reform bill were not included in the draft of a House version that Democratic leaders plan to unveil this week, a sign that some lawmakers fear the restrictions went too far.
The House draft would not require lobbyists to disclose "bundling" practices in which they solicit and deliver multiple donations for a congressional candidate, party leaders said. Nor would it require retired or defeated lawmakers to wait two years before becoming a lobbyist, party leaders said.
Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) told a group of Democratic moderates on Tuesday that an ethics and lobbying reform bill being pushed by party leaders was total crap, but said that he would work to enact the legislation because Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) supports it.
you do realize he was attempting to auction off a congressional seat, right?right, because the House leader controls an IL gov. who was just convicted on failure to disclose certain gifts he received while Senator from Alaska??
Ferris Bueller for governor. This should wipe corruption from Illinois for all time.
Blagojevich sentenced to 14 years for corruption charges – This Just In - CNN.com BlogsFormer Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Blagojevich was also sentenced to pay a $20,000 fine.
The judge said he does not have report to prison for 90 days.
i bet he doesnt pose a "credible" threat to leave the state/county.BTW, anybody else think that a 3 month reprieve on your 14 year jail sentence is a bit odd? I can't imagine this happens all too often...
fixed. Why do I think it would be different for a black guy sentenced to 14y for doing anything wrong
Saw a RenegadeRick thread and thought he may have escaped Gitmo.
Case in Texas of a confessed murderer (Amit Livingstone) who was given 60 days to "set his affairs in order" and who promptly fled home to India, abetted by his family in the US and India. Still at large over there. Now if only law enforcement could swing up here and grab our Governor as well, I'd be ecstatic.
BTW, anybody else think that a 3 month reprieve on your 14 year jail sentence is a bit odd? I can't imagine this happens all too often...
Well, since all this occurred in Chicago I think we can all sleep comfortably tonight knowing there is NO WAY that any of the legal parties involved could possibly be corrupt. That judge is currently in jail for taking money from defense attorneys to do favors/leniency for their clients, though no such corruption was shown in the Livingstone case.
You're a dick.Did you guys know he was an old man? His profile said 41.
And those are mutually exclusive how, exactly? His profile said 41. I had always just assumed he was some way tweaked out pot head living in the parents basement listening to Coast to Coast AM.
Guess I meant to say tweaked out 20 something. But your right, they are not.And those are mutually exclusive how, exactly?
