The newest edition to the NWD line of films can be described in one word EPIC!!!

This movie deserves its own thread in pure appreciation. I will do my best not to spoil anything for the majority who has not watched it yet but this has far surpassed my expectations for a NWD film. Tons of awesome locations, a plethora of riders, and awesome music. You know that feeling that you get when you're driving a beast and you feel all of that thrust leaving your heart in your throat and you breathing heavy? I had this feeling similar to the first time i took my motorcycle on the road throughout the entire movie, just a constant building of excitement!!

Am i being a little romantic about my experience with this movie? maybe... but it was absolutely the best hour i've spent not studying for my final exams i have tomorrow.

i lied.. one teaser

I think the ppl who mostly bash this movie are the ppl who hate particular riding or were expecting some more the next uber hardcore stunt instead of ppl finaly riding their bikes. Much more flow in this one.

The only big issue I have with this one is that some of the rider sections are ridiculously short and it makes the movie feel short. It's funny as you could easily fit more than 1h on a dvd and I'm sure they have much more material as some of the rider sections were extremely short.
Still I think the series is evolving and wherer ppl like it or not it's sth new which is nice as I was pretty disapointed in NWD 8 being a perfect clone of the 7th instalment.

come on, do you really think this movie is better than kranked 7? same old contest scenes, same old riding style, only the dirt pipe segment is filmed with a new style. kranked 7 was more like a modern snowboard movie, much more progression here in the filming style than in nwd 9...

Kranked 7 was chaotic and in most cases really boring. The shots weren't that cool and imo it just didn't get the feel. Also a lot of filming was similar to very old krankeds like the far away heli view. It's not new it's the same as kranked always was and actualy no new riding.
What was the new scene in kranked? Riding down a big mountain like in snowb movie? That what's been done since the first Fr movies.

About the contest shots. Be hones how much was it really? Crankworks + a bit from quasqai. Compare it to 7 and 8 and you get much less tricks on dirtstuff and much more riding. In 7 and 8 maybe there was less contests but more DJ/SS.
Also I still don't get why many ppl riding DH and hucks have so much hate towards tricks especialy in movies. We are ride bikes and we do it because we love it. We divide? Also most of the ss guys are really good FR and DH riders. Lacodeguy brothers If i'm not wrong used to race dh and many of the ss riders do quite big hucks (Semeniuk and his Rampage win). People need to get over their differances (well I actualy try to learn how to ride a 24'' DJ ;) )

looks like I'm not the only one who doesn't like it. There are some gorgeous shots in the movie (e.g. Cedric in Andorra or Benny Korthaus section) ... but I found it pretty boring anyway.

Your face.
Kranked 7 stunk like a house made of chicken **** stuffed with dead dogs and set on fire.

The new NWD is definitely an improvement, with some absolutely stellar shots, but a lot of repetition too. The Bourdon storyline is great though, really pulls you in and finally gives you something to give a **** about.

Seasons FTW.

I haven't liked a lot of the NWD series, but I think the latest one was really good, a serious step up above the last few for sure.....they cut back on the slopestyle and contest and dj's and put a lot more mountain biking in it, and it made it a lot better....

i dont have anything against tricks, as long as they are done in real cool locations and not some boring dirt jump trail/urban setting. biking must be done in the nature, not on a perfect shaped ground, this ground is for bmx.

and when i see somebody riding an insane line in alaska, no trick can top this. because there you need the real skills, just to survive.

Have you seen Thor Wixoms Jib?
Jib is an urban movie. Not a mountain bike movie.

Anyway, was honestly pretty disappointed. Scenes on riders were short and chaotic, Gracia's scene was piss poor and he consistently has some of my favorite scenes. The cut several riders that are the more exciting scenes to watch (seriously, when has Wade Simmons had a bad scene since NWD 1...) and tried to give way to much time to "up and commers." But I honestly don't give a fyck about up and commers if they're not doing anything sensational compared to the current guys out there. Great, some dude doing a tailwhip on a dirt jump, what will they think up next.

It felt like a long dirt jump movie. Barel and Robbie Bourdon's scenes were the only ones that I was pumped on. McCauls scene was worthwhile, and I think that was about it.

I keep rewatching it hoping my memory is off and it'll be better the next time. So far unimpressed.

I bought it and liked it. Its great that Kurt Voreis was in there shredding it. He is the most talented/underrated rider. The guy kills it and everything!

Its a good movie but the whole hype about it pretty much killed it for me... far too great expectations and thats when all the little things start to bug you. Too much dirt/slopestyle (expected though), some segments felt too short, main theme just disappears, etc. I'll probably appriciate it more once i've seen it a few times but it definately doesn't join the top 2008 movies up there.

Btw shouldn't this be in the freeride section... hard to seek out the DH in NWD9. :busted:

If you think he is shredding in the vids you should see him riding in real life!

I guess there was to much expectation for it. It was way different to the previous one, it kinda went back to grass roots, trying to show a bit of everything. Personally, there are certain parts I loved, but in general I didnt like its composition. Each segment is to short, its like you cant enjoy a rider / location segment and they already changed. I also think, Cedrics part was just a fill in, then could have choosen a much better spot to film and better shots. The music was good. I believe that with NWD 8, they stepped the bar up, now the went down. But oh well, cant get them all.

IMO it was a weak effort. No Wade Simmons and Gracia's section blew. The gap Mcaul hit was cool and Bourdon's flat spin.

The newcaster story line was stupid.

i watched it last night, absolutely loved it...you guys are nuts...this is def the best nwd film to date, great music compared to years past, filming has stepped up a ton, the lines are REALLY creative...

yeah i could use a tailwhip less but you gotta realize these guys are throwing down tailwhips and flat spins on stuff guys were straight airing a few years ago, it is just showcasing how dialed these guys are...you can bet that if cedric could tailwhip he would be...that said his section was the worst i agree on that

well, I guess the sport has come to a sort of stop, the most impressive trick on the video would have to be Andreus double backflip... and there loads of other impresive tricks that didnt make it on this one.

 Jaded much? I don't know about you, but double backflips are still pretty cool and progressive.

I personally think the NWD series and the NOW pop music CD's should think about a simultaneous release. And they could even use the lateset NOW as a soundtrack to the latest NWD

Just watched NWD 9. My opinion?????

I can't wait for my Victory and 3Focus dvd's.

I'd love to see Freeride Entert. making a documentary film about World Cup racing. But I think this will not come true.

double backflip is insane! no doubt about it! But Im saying, with all the dirt jumping going on in the video, they could have put some sicker moves... Im loving the backflip supermans, but what about the 720 backflip or what ever it was the jamie goldman did a couple of years ago? how about the body barrel or spin that ben boyko pulls off (speaking of which, he didnt even appear on the video). One thing I really like was Semenuks style and that crazy hand plant to transfer line, crazy. Bourdo jumps were crazy as well, that flat spin 360 made most of the video worth while and that crazy gap he pulls off. But still, the video lacks something... Cedrics part was a waste of his time, he deserved much more.

So actualy there is some stuff that's new ;) In NWD 8 actualy there wasn't nothing new besides the first DJ section. Imo 8 was a complete rip off of the 7th part and only added a few tricks but felt like there was little progress between the 2 parts.
Also don't expect much progress in years time.

BTW. 720backflip? I call bs on that. Link?

To be honest...I'm tired of all dj's sections.
I'd like to see a movie about mountain bike.
If I wanted a dj movie...I would buy a 20' bike movie, that the tricks are much more cooler to watch.

Sorry my english.

noone has commented how awesome it was there was almost ZERO skate park sessions or urban anything even chases spot was mostly dirt and pretty fun to watch totally aaron style. The way the lines integrated big bikes into mountain street riding style is what made me like it so much.

there was a few seconds of the brooklyn banks but that is about it

honestly my favorite part was Wayne's section he pulled some really stylish moves on that north shore trail i wish they had just shown him run that top to bottom

looks like i am the minority here, but i have hated most of the nwd films in the past...

So I finally went to VAS and bought it directly, which is a really cool place by the way. They even had a package addressed to a Gee Atherton waiting to be picked up for delivery.

At any rate, I also felt like the movie lacked something. The footage/editing was what I felt was incomplete (not the riding). Of course some of those super slow motion shots are really sick to watch, but they don't give a complete view of whats going on. For example, most of the racing footage was slowed down so you couldn't see the true speeds of riders. On the bigger jump shots you couldn't tell how much speed was needed, you only can tell that they are jumping big.

The rich color correction was a little overwhelming too. It looked sweet, yes, but it distracted me just like the slow motion did.

The best parts of this DVD are found in the bonus features, or Fabian's section.
