Make sure your set top dvd player can play PAL Dvds. Worst case, your computer dvd player / laptop will play it.

Most US based DVD will only play NTSC, not PAL format. As Jason noted above, make sure you player can play PAL. It used to be a major TV problem as well, but HD is HD anywhere, same resolution and same scan rates so now it's a player issue mostly.

it's a dvd player and recorder and it has the option of switching between NTSC and PAL. oddly enough the mid-priced dvd player i bought in '04 played some PAL vid too, but aren't there differences even among the PAL format too?
