I currently just have some pretty basic pedals and am looking for a nice set of pedals to replace mine. I would like to get some good flat form pedals and was wondering if someone could help point me in the right direction. My cranks are xtr currently. Let me know your opinions on some good all mountain/freeride pedals.

Specialized Lo Pro Mags and some Five Ten impact shoes. Lo Pro Mags, along with many high end platforms, are concave (lower in the middle of the pedal, so your foot stays put). Five Ten shoes are sticky, so your foot stays put. If your foot stays put too much for your taste with this setup, just switch to fewer/shorter pins.

I'm sure you'll get lots of other good suggestions based on everyone's personal taste. I have some crank brothers 50/50's and they're ok, not my favorite.

If you have the money to burn look into Twenty6 pedals, they are incredibly grippy and super light. They're around $300 for the Ti version

If you want to a cheaper light alternative, Welgo MG-1 Ti's sell on eBay for around $100 and are sub 300g.

you really cant beat the atom lab trail kings, and if you dont have the bread get the general issues, they are tough, easily rebuilt, and the thinnest pedal on the market cant see arguing with that

Waaaay out there
Budget......Mosh Bikes Steps. Less than $30 for a fully sealed pedal. I have been on mine for about a year and love 'em

Pimp...Syncros are nice and have a lifetime warranty

Unlimited budget....Twenty6's are the heat.

I might get flamed for this but I have had nothing but problems out of 5050's

Thanks for the replies guys. Price is not too much of an issue at this point. Just something light and strong. I will check some of these out.

if you have money to spend...

Syncros Mental alloy or Mental Magnesiums without a doubt

stupidly grippy even with skate shoes, extremely grippy with 5-10s, I cannot use my Syncros for dirt jumping with 5-10s I have to wear my bmx orchid shoes to allow feet to adjust between doubles

the Mental alloys were lighter than DMR v-12 when I weighed both on digital scales, the Magnesiums are going to be even lighter...

multiple bearings and bushings in each pedal = extremely low maintenance, after 2.5 years on the Mental Alloys I finally got a rebuild kit which was about 1.5th of the price of the pedals

I replaced the inner o-ring and regreased the inner DU bush as the pedals had developed a squeak and were a little loose - I tightened up the nyloc and the looseness disappeared

on inspection, all the bearings were still holding the original blue marine grease with no contamination and I did not need to replace any bearings so still have a full DH / bearing rebuild kit except for 2 o-rings

the pedal bodies are very very tough, the pins are replaceable and I have no issues what so ever despite Whistler, Vancouver North Shore, English riding in mud and rain, dirt jumping and bike park abuse

Straitline are real quality pedals, and they arnt CRAZY epensive either.

dangerboys pedals are nice too. I believe unrealcycles.com may still have some available for sale. They are very hard to find these days.

atomlab.com also has a nice selection of quality pedals. thier new PIMPLITE pedals are very VERY impressive. However they will not be released until February 2009 I belive.

and of course, twenty6 pedals are the bombbb.
