You can't go wrong with the Nevegals. Just get the stick-e rubber compound and let her rip! I've been very impressed with my set, they roll great, and are very predictable when braking and sliding...

But the Minions are really good tires as well, but I'll take my Nevegals...

I ride Western NC, Snowshoe, Windrock, ect. on this bike. The conditions range from tacky soil full of roots to full on rock gardens.
I went with the Nevegals (Stick-E). A few in my crew use them and highly recommend them. I'm trying to lighten this bike up a little, (currently it's ~46 pounds w/ DH casing 2.5's and DH tubes) I'm a light guy, (160 w/ gear) and I have not had a problem with flats. Therefore I went with single ply tires and I'm gonna try regular tubes. That should knock off about 2-4 pounds. We'll see if this combination works. Thanks for the replies!

Crankenberry,

What size tires did you go with? Guessing if single ply you went with the 2.35? I have been looking for a tire for the Western NC area also but I am leaning strongly towards the Excavator. They supposedly grip as well as the Nevagals for the WNC type riding but offer lower rolling resistance. Vinny just got one for the front of his rig but I haven't heard his comments on it yet.

I went 2.5 F and 2.35 R. They are going on the big Intense.
You wanna join us for a ride Sunday? (Wilsons or maybe a trail located near a restaurant.)

the people I know who use Nevegals complain that they grip okay but at speed they tend to let go suddenly without warning, so bad that they are called "nevergrip" around here. never used them so can't say either way.

NEvegals roll and a have a dead zone when cornering in Socal loose over hard but if you get used to the little dead zone they rock! Nevegals front rear is a good combo StickE is the only way to go.
MAxxis 3c dhf front/rear is a great combo as well, been running this for 5 months and pretty impressed. I just got hooked up with schwalbe and trying bad bettys and muddy marys this season for DH. Rode both and they hook up insanely well.

I ride in the PNW and BC. I've had fantastic luck with Bontrager Big Earls. They work in everything except on the green woodwork we get in the Spring here. Then again nothing short of ice spikes will work on that stuff.
