Watch Out at Headleys

Rode Headleys, Beehive, and Raiders on Saturday with some buds from Raleigh and parked my Jeep Grand Cherokee at the top of Headleys on 181, well off the pavement. Well, after about 4 hours of riding, we came back to pick my vehicle up only to see it totaled. Some dumb@#$ women was traveling south on 181 at a high rate of speed and lost control, over corrected, and WHAM, ran into the back of the Jeep at about 50 mph according to the Highway Patrol when I called them that afternoon. So, I just wanted to say watch your vehicles, and more importantly yourself. If any of us where unloading bikes, or shuttle vehicles, we could have been killed. As we were collecting some belongings from the vehicle at the end of the ride, we saw two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed almost lose it in that turn...BE CAREFUL

Well, that sucks...181 is a race course though, so I would definitely beware of parking in the apex of that turn and the one by greentown, or any others for that matter, I've parked there before but after seeing cars and bikes lose it on more than one instance, I don't anymore. With a 55mph speed limit, those turns are awesome to stuff in the car though....sooo much fun! Hope you get hooked up with a new car!

That really sucks, hope you get hooked up with a new car. If you've ever pedalled up 181, its pretty amazing how many liquor bottles there are littering the sides of the road. No wondering there aren't more wrecks. If you look on google earth at the 181/FR982 intersection there looks to be an overturned semi truck there

I have no idea where I am
Sorry about your car. But it is definitely a good thing no one was unloading at the time.

When we ride Headley's I always carry my gear into the woods and get ready at the trail head for that reason.

I hope you had a great ride before that happened.

We saw them towing your jeep away today. Hopefully her insurance company hooks you up. Hate that had to happen, but at least know one was unloading when it happened.

Yeah, Not a great site to come back to after shredding all day. It turns out the chicks insurance policy was cancelled on 12/20 and she filed a false police report with the Highway PAtrol. Now I have to deal with my insurance. Sucks when someone elses ingnorance and stupidity costs you things you value. At least nobody was standing in the area and the Highway Patrol are issuing a warrant.....Happy F8%ckin New Year.

On a lighter note my new Moorewood Mbuzi took the trails flawlessly.

I still say you are lucky you guys were not standing by the Jeep when she came around the corner. Maybe they will catch her and then you can sue her. I hear Farris is a Litigator...

Willie,

She is in the hospital in Morganton, so the Highway Patrol know exactly where she is. My insurance is taking care of me, so I really pity the lady and the fact that she is in the hospital, with no insurance, her vehicle is totaled, probably no health insurance, and the fact that a warrant is out on her.

Whoa! Glad you were ok, sucks about your Jeep!

Did she know her insurance was cancelled? If she did, I don't really have any pity for her.

Damn B, that is teh suck. I guess this is why you have full coverage on your car, even if it's paid for and you only need liability. I don't know what the penalty is for driving (and wrecking) w/o insurance, but I hope they throw her under the jail. Perhaps give her the litigation version of jonkranked's ATM sig line.

Btw, glad you like the bike. That thing looks pimp, and with the new front bump stick, it will be a superb ride.

Btw, we're going to be in Durham tonight if you want to join us and drown your sorrows.

Something tells me if he sues her, he is just going to end up getting a
carton of Camels and maybe a Jeff Foxworthy comedy special on VHS.

Good luck on getting your ride your replaced man.

We were up there that day and saw your jeep- that really sucks. I wouldn't pity the girl too much because your insurance premiums are gonna go sky high.

B-rok...

Once again, sorry about yer situation. While you were assessing the damage, I was feeling like we were a flock of sittin' ducks on the side of that road. Although I've always felt like that out there. If you start at the bottom and count new sections of guard rail, you lose track after a few miles. So many crashes on that road...

Anyway, next time we ride the xc part too. It's just up the hill a bit but you can pull all the way off the road.

Tell Jen I said hi.

Later...

Brian,

Hard to pity someone when they make such bad decisions. I don't want to make light of her situation, but she got herself into it. It is probably going to be a while before she is out of trouble for this. Hopefully she will recover form her injuries and learn from her mistakes. Glad your ins. co. is taking care of you.
