I am currently teetering on buying an old mk1 Rabbit (preferably GTI) and euro tuning it, or getting an old MGB and restoring it..... I think that the rabbit is more my calling card, but if I find the right MG in my price range I'll get it.

My dad had a 1974 chrome bumper MGB - we lived in Colorado so it was a summer car. We used to drive all a around the Rockies looking for fishing holes on weekends. The car was great fun but it was also incredibly hot since your legs where right next to the crankcase. On really hot days the twin SUs would act up and gas would boil. We'd pull off the highway to fish and always pulled the hood so the engine would cool down faster - I'm sure we weren't the only ones to do this. I'd bet this practice greatly contributed to MG's poor reputation in the states. :)

I love the 2002's, got one ('71) and if I can help it I will never sell it. I think the 3.0 CSL wins over a 75 Tii and a 73 Tii wins over the 75 since in '75 Tii's weren't imported and the 74's and later had the baby bumpers.

Also I would have to add the Triumph TR3
