I'm thinking about heading out to race. It is going to pricey from VT but I have always wanted to go.
Anyone else heading out to race?
Also places to stay, food, entertainment? Myself and the wife will be there for a week so we were hoping to other things besides just race weekend.

i think this will be the first time in about 8 years that i'll race slalom there! super pumped... but we'll see what happens when the time comes. i've got a zillion other responsibilities there... so i'll keep my fingers crossed

Salinas will probably be cheaper, but more things go on in Monterey/Seaside. so if you actually want to do stuff, be prepared to drive or stay "in town"

There's an airport in Monterey, but it can get pretty pricey.. a flight to San Jose, San Fran, etc & a rental car would probably suit you better & give u opportunity to see a bit more of the area.

BE PREPARED FOR RAIN & COLD! Although it didn't rain this last season (a huge surprise), it normally does. & it can get "hella" hot & "hella" cold in the same day! wind can get "hella" gnarly too! & GET USED TO SAYIN "HELLA" cause you're in HELLA NOR CAL! ;)

There is a food court in the venue, & from what i remember, prices are generally fair (for this type of deal),... you're about 15 min drive or so away from either town...& the parking can get gnarly... so i would suggest to bring your own food or buy there.

hope that helps... i'm just rambling now!

Thanks for the info Dylan. It's just like racing at MSA and Bromont, same weather criteria so I should be decent.
Thanks for the surrounding area info.
Also we say wicked a lot in the NE so every time I hear hella I will throw a wicked!

Staying in SALINAS can be shady. I had about 20K in crap in my room and my gun loaded the entire time. Both sides of us had the nastiest looking hookers I have ever seen working all damn night. Don't stay at the Motel 6 next to the 101 there. Pay 15-30 more a night and stay in Monterey. There is a lot to do there.
1. The Aquarium
2. 17 Mile Drive ( nice driving by 10 million dollar homes U cant buy)
3. Drive South down highway 1 and check out the views.
4. Maybe check out Santa Cruz.
5. WInchester Mystery House (have heard it is CRAZY) about 1 hour N or so!

the coldest i have ever been was at the otter. single digitt or lower temps in colorado dont bother me. but eff ever being that cold again in monterey. the only reason i'd ever want to race at sea otter would be slalom. only reason i could see going back again would be getting paid to do so.

Wish I could go again. Had a blast last year and wish I could be back to defend my 1st. But I have to pick only one big one a year and this year I have my sights set on Crankworx.

I will be there again this year. I am racing DH in CAT-1 (got approved and upgraded today). I will probably be out there every day that week for practice and to hang out with Tomac.

Hopefully Evomo will have a booth with a couch, beer, and food again. That pretty much ruled.

I live an hour away and might just stay at home and drive out every day. Or maybe stay at Brian/Kelly's place again. I swear I wont stink up the house again.

Delta from albany to san fransisco or jose 250 rt/one person. I'll have to check into travel from airport to montery though. (hint)He's too young to rent a car.

As of Jan 1st he no longer has a ride, but things are looking good for 2009.

I'm really happy that you can tell the date, learned something new this year,eh. Gosh pretty soon you'll even get that clock thing down, maybe even the one that's not digital.

As stated, As of Jan 1st he no longer has a ride, but things are looking good for 2009.

now please stop stalking him and I, it's a bit creepy....are you related to Evan?

That's funny. I've lived in SJ near this place for the last 11 years and never once thought about going there. I don't know anyone that has. But whenever I drive a few hours away I see billboards, signs, and pamphlets everywhere for this place like it's the number one attraction in CA.

Just spend the week riding in Santa Cruz, then camp out at the race if you can. Oh, the Acquarium, Big Sur and the other stuff are all good too.

I'll be racing DH and DS. The DS is an event not to miss.

Josh,

I'm thinking if I race this year (which I believe I am), Jehn and I might get a place in the area. Maybe the wife and I, and the future-wife and you can split a room?

Problem is, what about the bikes? I'm not too sure which bike I plan to bring this year. :(

MDJ:

I lived in Santa Clara (about 3 blocks from Valley Fair Mall) for almost my entire life. Only set foot in the Winchester Mystery House once (maybe twice). It's cool, but nothing spectacular.

To those who might be making it out here to race/ride, I'd say hit up Santa Cruz, and I agree with MDJ that you should check out the Aquarium. It's one of the best in the nation.

Otherwise, enjoy the super hot or super-retarded-cold-monsoon style weather that will inevitably hit approx. 20 minutes before my race run. :(

That's usually what I do. Skip the racing. But I think I have to race Sea Otter this year. *le sigh*

I'm still stoked on getting out there though and checking out all the booths, etc.

yep, the line has been crossed
Yeah you crossed the line when you mentioned me being some what related to evan, that's like telling me I'm related to a retarded ferret. If you dish it out be prepared to handle something of equal douchbagery, grow a pair.
