Wondering what people are recomending as an all rounder type of bike. Something you can shuttle with, and race a couple of super ds, but still be able to be ridden up the hill.

I have heard santa cruz nomads are good.

This may get shot down, but check out a bottle rocket.

It kind of depends what you want most out of a bike.

I have a yeti asx for sale. Pedals good and can be taken down the rough stuff.

I love my Nomad for everything the 303 isn't fantastic for.

Great for shuttle runs that aren't "gnar" enough for a 9" bike, I can still crank it up the hill with a 1X9 configuration, and it jumps really well for a 6" bike. Nice and balanced, though the DHX Air concept is garbage.

If I could purpose-build my Super-D weapon, it would hands-down be a Yeti 575. I did super-d on an AS-X and it's a bit on the burly side for that. If your emphasis is going to be more to the shuttling-but-still-pedalable, though, the AS-X or Bottlerocket are your logical choices.

IMO, it mainly depends on the course. Of the 2 courses I have competed on, a straight up DH bike was the way to go. I passed so many people on lighter trail bikes that got knocked off course in the rock sections (or they were trying to save weight and run single plys, which equalled a lot of flats). That said, there wasn't a whole lot of climbing on either course, so a DH bike would certainly suck if there was significant elevation gain in parts. So if it's a relatively smooth course with a fair bit of climbing or flat sections, than any decent all-mountain bike would be ideal. If it's minimal climbing and some legit DH sections, I'd lean towards a DH rig.

i currently own a knolly delerium-t and i think that is would be a great bike. it climbs very well for a 37 lbs (or even a 30 lbs) bike and can rip down the hill very similar to a true dh bike. truthly amazing.

I really like my Enduro (not the SL) as it rides like a DH bike, but still pedals decently...... done some light DH work on it too, just an all around great bike.

can a guy run a hardtail for a super D race?
I was chasing a guy on a hardtail in a SD race last summer, he had me in the pedally stuff, but the second it turned down, dropped him like a bad habit. I guess it would really depend on the course though.....

Chumba EVO, after pedalling it around yesterday and ripping it up at the berms and single track HOLY $H!T! May be unconventional looking but its well balanced and RIPS! Pedals well as well as Im impressed.
Jumped well, no for or aft rocking when hitting stuff vertical wheelpath to slightly rear so doesnt hang on stuff when going over and 6" feels plush on rough but pedalled really really well!

^^^ I've heard really good things about the Evo as well.

I've been on a Trek Remedy for a few months now and am stoked. It doesn't pedal quite as well uphill as my SL did but more than makes up for it on the descent and everywhere else. Hoping to wring it out in a few Super D's this year...

Yeah If I can get my cardio up Id like to do a super D, part of the reason I got it was traing and helping with cardio/corners. Figured if it railed Id probably run a super D (lungs permitting :D). IT RAILS!
Im a sprinter tons of power for short burst, break chains etc.... in the middle of a stroke and not take offs. Ask me to pedal distance and Ill hire a stunt double :D:D:D.

If anyone has a good training regement or list as well of super Ds in california and what to expect on them ie elevation, etc... Id appreciate it. As well as pacing yourself what kinds of rides are good training etc... From what I gather super D is like aggressive AM.

Too bad you aren't still up north - - Silver Mountain has a good super-d layout that you could get as many reps on as you wanted this year.

As far as training, a well-organized spinning class with a good variety of workouts will do that for ya.

Yeah silvers really doing a good job. I just started back at the gym but weight lifting again to repack my size on and stretching so I dont get all swollen and cant move.
I did a machine that stairs are rotaiting through and its like walking up stairs or jogging depending on level and almost crashed! Legs faded at level 15 after 6 minutes and was kicking the stairs as they came out couldnt get the stairs to slow button was goofy and no sides to jump off. held on and kept beating the button! LMAO guy next to me was rolling of laughter! :D

Did 2.4 miles of stairs. 98 floors and in 17 minutes took 3 to cool down. Calfs were burning BAD!!! Ill stasrt spinning this afternoon. Any leg exercises that help???? I want t work on my ankle strength as well. Ideas and or tips for doing around the house when not at the gym are helpful as well???

BTW how is Tim and all the guys at bike butler? Tell them "Hi". :thumb:

I just built up an Intense SS and the thing is awsome. I can pedal it to the top of the hill yet it feels almost as good as my M6, minus a few inches of travel, on the way back down.

From personal experience, current bike in the stable, IH 6point I think would be a great option as well. I've been able to pedal it everywhere and it rips downhill. Love the wide BB and rear end.

Its a medium and Im 6'4"!
Im actually on the fence I think Im pulling it tonight anywase. It rides great and makes a good play bike that climbs and can take abuse so no reason to stray from struff ie drops etc...
I just mounted a 2.35 Muddy mary rear and a 2.5 Muddy mary front for Kamiah this weekend a 3500' descent shuttle that has some snow mud drops and single track as well as some fast road spots that has a good7' drop to a long flowing tranny that can be pegged at 30moh Plus or as fast as you can get.
Im bringing the jedi as well but want to take the EVO out to play!

AHHH Kirkland and park place man I got busted there years ago! Went to RHS and Woodinville had a bunch of friends from LW and Juanita and medina in bellevue! Fun place born and raised there!

Sunk a boat out in front of the market on pk blvd in LW!

The mtbr guys would swear by the ibis mojo.
I could second that. I've spent a lot of time riding a Mojo this season and it's a hell of a bike. It's not real DHey, but it climbs better than almost any bike I've ever ridden, it's poppy and quick and corners really well. The suspension feels substantial. When it gets real steep I'd want something lower and slacker, but other than that I've always had a lot of fun on it. It's also stiffer than a lot of DH bikes. At 240 it's hard to make the Ibis squirm. Impressive for a 6lbs frame.

Def my favorite 5-6" travel non DH influenced trail bike. Better than a lot of more well known frames in my opinion. From what I've seen, most mini DH bikes would be noticeably slower on a SuperD course considering how slow they can get through tight sections.

I'd take my 5spot myself what bikes best is a personal thing as is setup, no one bike is better as is rider, rider comes down to his her engine and then skill..

Super Ds if they are to XCish I'm not interested, I don't want it too Dh but plenty tech and challenging where cardio is not the main element, skill and fitness helps though, but weight or some roadie should not win on an XC bike!

That's as GHEY as skin suits!:bonk:

For super-d I am one of "those mtbr" guys that swears by his Mojo. But it seems that any good AM bike is going to be well suited to most super-d tracks. (at least the ones I have raced on in Colorado). This is what works for me

Ill post pics of todays ride!
20 miles 7 miles start up hill 2800ft then muddy single trac, snow ice wet grass etc...
The Chumba EVO ROCKED it, pedalled to the top non stop then railed down.
I didnt sprint up it but pedaled the whole way in 34th ring and didnt use the granny once.

The schwalbe Muddy Marys hooked up through it all including a flat muddy snow ice corner at a 34th maxxed out pedalling. Smokin hot tires! :thumb:

Got some chopped down shock on there?! That seat tube angle looks rediculously un-Turner.
Nup that's standard shock stroke and eye to eye might be the angle or the seat 7.5 x 2.0 stroke shock! I measured it made sure its not stuck down, its on my RFX at mo as Im using the Spot stays on the rear for a SS mode!

But she ripped the DS track in that get up before I broke my neck :poster_oops:

Oh forgot remember that's an 06 Spot with 5.3" rockers a 140mm Pike up front at full travel too! I like slack 50mm stem!

Chumba Evo! Rocked to the top and with the comp backed out 2 clicks and rebound as well it rode like my DH bike but cornered alot faster. (scared me a couple of times, laid it over weighted the outside and off it went pinning it full speed).
I have a 66 RC3 thats going on it for race season and Ill use the z1 fr eta for super D.
And of course the big bike for bigger stuff.

Ride up (pedalled from here to top non stop 2600' up top is in the clouds off to right by the top of the tree)
Mind you the bike is 37lbs with DH casings and some stupid 600g oddesey pedals and a sold steel sram cassette, wheelset (hubs/spokes mainly) and a few other heavy bits on it as well. Can easily be 33 lbs freeride DH ready!
peddaled really well!!!!

Do you like the fork? I have the 06 version in white on my Heckler and I resist on changing it. I think I've already changed all the stuff on my bike since I bought it minus the fork...it's a great all around fork in my opinion...

so far that little fork with the rc2 is awesome! i was really surprised how handled so well, had NO flex and was absolute butter! It pinned the corners and trust me I mashed the cr@p out of the doll head rocks and stuff in my way on the way down as if it were my big bike! It handled identical to my 07 888WC just 2" less travel. Pure butter and stiffer then he!!.

Yeah be hesitant to get rid of yours, they are a smokin hot fork.
I wanted to put the 66RC3 on but after riding this weekend Im not so sure. I might for a certain course coming up this season thats DH and too much pedaling for the big bike. But only to rake the front out a little bit, as far as the fork its a good ol made in italy bomb proof buttery fork! :thumb: Love this thing and I came into it expecting to hate it!
