This year hasn't been too good to me thus far and instead of whining about it, I want to take advantage of this recession and buy some tickets to somewhere ****ing badass to go shred. I'll be leaving after finals are over 3rd week of March. I want to go with my full DH setup.

I've never gone anywhere but Canada to ride, but am going to Mexico soon to ride bigger bikes with my paps...so somewhere else.

Where should I go? I got about $1300 total for the trip. Round trip tix to Barcelona are 680, Buenos Aires is 855, Santiago is 1000. Rome is 647. I want to spend like 10-14 days.

Also, does anyone have an inside line on any of these places? Hostels, transportation, parks I can sleep in. I have no problem sleeping outside every night if I have a way to keep my bike safe and a stream to bathe after riding. I also don't know where to ride. Maybe a link to Argentinian, Chilean, or Spanish forums would be nice. I spoke Spanish back in high school, so I could probably pick it up pretty quick.

Any help is appreciated!

I want to point it down this:

then fight this thing and eat it

then point it down all of these

copmton, trip= priceless.
youll need to speak slang and spanish, lots of people sleep outside, lots of culture. gas stations to bath in sink, or ponds at parks and plenty of bars everywhere to lock your bikes too! :D

I wish i has usefull info but im jealouse that you can go all free of stuff and bare essentials. havent done that since kids and wife! :thumb:
we are going to want pics though, so plan on brining a camera so we can live it vicariousley through them!

Towing the party line.
I can wholeheartedly recommend Santiago and the surround area in Chile. There are a few locals on RM who can help you. I go down every year and love it. Once you get there, it's pretty cheap. About $1 usd to 600 pesos right now.

Only 10-14 days? C'mon, you can do a month or two if you live uber cheap!

If you're looking for proper DH, why not go to the Alps?

Barcelona will be pretty chilly in March. Pretty much anywhere in Europe will be cold in March. In Spain, the best riding is in the Pirineos (Pyrenees), which is open in the summer. If you're looking for a riding-oriented vacation, March is not really the best time to go since most mountains are still snowed in.

I've never been to South America, but have heard great things.

www.foromtb.com is a huge Spanish forum. They can direct you to South American forums pretty easily.

Thanks for the tips on everything.

Anyone else?

Technically...I am an International Business student and I am intending to do a foreign internship to satisfy my "Int'l" requirement...so technically I could probably get government grant money to shred.

So my next question:

Does anyone know of anyone in one of these countries that could use a business intern? I'm pretty good at numbers and real good at personal selling.

yeah riding the alps in march...
I start riding the train shuttles and lower mini gondolas in mid March. It is all underground stuff but super fun if you know where to go. There is a pic in Dirt this month shot by Victor Lucas of Rene Wildhaber and I from last March in a local spot to give you an idea of the type of riding.

I agree however, what is normally called "the alps" is not even the tip of the iceberg of what is rideable. There are plenty of spots that are just not known. I have ridden a spot for 3 years with just my friends and I before we saw another biker.

Bex and Dorenaz, Switzerland in the Valais are 2 spots in "The Alps" that are fine to ride in mid march. Dorenaz is in a micro climate wine region which gets lots of sun and wind to dry the trails. They are not well known but great lift accessed riding spots none the less.

The photo of Rene and I in Dirt from Dorenaz is from March 28 last year, I would post the picture but I don't have the rights.

Here is a pic of the gondola at Dorenaz

If I didn't snowboard so much I would definitely be riding my DH bike in March. It is possible but like I said, you have to know where to go.
