I'm going to look at colleges in California in two weeks and bringing my bike with me. What trails should I check out if I'm going to UCSD, UCSB, UCLA, Harvey Mudd, Cal Poly SLO, and UCSC?

UCSC has trails closer to location then UCSB unless you're looking to DJ. Both are pretty sick. Rocks in SB, smooth flowy turns in SC.

Might depend heavily on the class you race. In SLO there are no intermediate trails. It goes from beg/sport to HARD.

There are some great trails in SLO! Lots of looser rocks and gnarly steeps. There are a few smoother trails but get ready for rocks here. We also have the CP bike team which consists of a lot of roadies and XC riders but also handfull of great downhillers. Shoot me a PM for my email if you are interested in meeting up for a ride when you come through to visit. I can show you some super sick shuttle runs that lead out to campus.

SB or SLO if you like rocks. SC if you like smooth and short. Ignore the rest.

Trails around UCSB aren't too shabby either.
:stupid:

Spent almost 5 years at UCSB and loved every minute of it. Moved away about 7 months ago and I miss it like crazy. Incredible mountain bike trails (pretty much all of them have panoramic ocean views), perfect weather, beach access everywhere you go, and one of the most epic college towns you'll find anywhere.

There's a Ridemonkey user that goes to Harvey Mudd, his user name is HAB. You might want to shoot him a PM, I did the same a few months ago.
