www.purgatorybikes.com

Im not affiliated with said company in any way. Just stumbled across them and dig 'em so I figured Id give the bikes a little publicity. Probably a waste of a thread but Im bored, freshly unemployed, and watching the snow come down. Not much else to do lol.

lame pothead marketing descriptions. sorry, no stoner frames for me.
You'd rather line up like a mindless twat and be sold some **** from the marketing department, of say Trek?
I'd rather buy from the little guy not restrained by anything, if he smokes pot, even better, might free up some ideas. I would rather he had access to all the gear that the big manufacturers have, but if he's got an eye for quality, and pride, it doesn't matter.
This is a guy who will even build you your own ideas.

jayzus, i never said weed was the devil and the cause of all the problems. i'm just saying the marketing doesn't work on me. i don't listen to The Dead and wear tie-dye, i don't listen to Dre or Snoop and sport gold plated pot leaf bling. not saying those things aren't enjoyable to some. just saying that when i read "Joe Sizzle pimps 7" of travel with a 20 oz bud. Joe Sizzle smokes his own home grown 6" fork and rides..." i read "blah blah blah" and look elsewhere. y'all are uptight and could probably use a bong hit.

aaahahaha, nothing like stereotypes and generalizations! classic! funny thing is, I had a pretty quick glance through the site and didn't see that much 'weed talk'......talk about needing to loosen up

lol that Joe Sizzlin' description does not make me want to buy the bike or instill confidence for me in the welder's state of mind during welding the head tube on... but it is funny lol and steel bikes are pimp.

Its funnier to know that you pretty much just claimed to choose what bikes you ride by the quality of the marketing hype alone.

The welding of the frames gets out sourced(from what i read on the site). he builds the jigs, preps the tubes, etc. the welding is done by someone else.

and yes. Steel bikes are PIMP!

reminds me a bit of hood from years back. looks to have similar pedigree to hood, spooky and maybe a little brooklyn thrown in for good measure.

yup, that is what keeps people alive. i see a snake with a certain coloring and i know that it is toxic and should give it plenty of room. does it mean that a non-venomous king snake can be mistaken for a venomous coral snake every once in a while? sure does. is it worth the risk of taking a closer look at every snake to make sure i know what kind it is? not for me, i'll just move along.

i made no such statement. i indicated that that certain types of marketing hype will turn me off of a product. i never said that i would buy a well hyped product that didn't have the guts to back it up. that is why i ride a Nicolai - tons of the "right" crazy-a$$ hype that i buy into, and enough brass to let them justify it.

i've met the guy a couple of times at mountains around new england. It's very cool that he rides and makes bikes. I've gotten on some kind of mailing list where he sends out new frames that he's building. It's cool stuff, Mark is a good guy (even though he never has the brake fluid I need to borrow) and he's a northeastern local, one of the last.

hey guys, how's it going? It's Mark from Purgatory.

A customer of mine sent me this link... Thanks for the compliments and the thread in general, it was interesting and entertaining, and that video of the money in overalls riding the scooter thing has me cracking up.

The story behind Joe Sizzle is that he is an actual person... a cousin of a long time friend... the bike was named after him and some stories he's been involved in, so kind of an inside joke. Joe Sizzle does smoke weed - alot - and everyone has their own opinion, so it's all cool. He's now residing in Hawaii and every so often I get to hear some of his stories through my buddy and they're quite entertaining... funny thing is they're real.

If you are interested in a little bit about me and the company:

As you've guessed or read, I am one guy, building custom, and will do custom one offs... the latest was for a guy overseas and he called his bike "The Critic". Came out nicely... it's based on the older Sloppy Joe design from 2004. I won't build just anything, but if someone is serious I'll work out a design with them... I'm normally pretty backlogged for custom work though so wait times are quite awhile.

As for weed... no, I don't smoke pot, well, not since college. I have nothing against pot though. A lot of my friends smoke pot and a lot don't... some can't ride unless they're baked (and most of these guys are truly sic sic riders). To each his own I guess... everyone has some sort of vice... normally I'm kicking a Miller Lite. Yes, crap beer in some people's opinion, it's just what I dig.

The welding on all my bikes is contracted and my welder is one of the best welders I've ever seen. Truly an artist. Great guy too. He doesn't ride much, more of an occasional trail mtb'er, but he is into bikes too and he loves welding the rigs...

If you want to envision what music is playing when I'm working on the rigs - death metal is cranking through the shop... but I can listen to just about anything for a little bit...

I am building some new stuff at the moment and normally don't post much on any sites. I don't advertise much aside from the website, and I basically build the rigs since I love all aspects of biking --- from designing and building, to checking out the new designs of the big boys; it's all like art to me, and everyone has their own taste. I focus a lot on my designs to make them not only functional, but they have what I feel is a personalized look that makes the rigs a Purgatory.

I'm more than happy to send pics of new designs and chat a bit, but typically through my regular email (info@purgatorybikes.com). Any questions, or if you want to see some of the upcoming stuff, drop me a line.

I try not to post much cuz someone is always looking to jump on the bandwagon and fry up some crap, but I figured I'd drop a line on this thread - it was pretty interesting.

Thanks again, and if anyone has any more videos with that monkey, post them up!

Mark, thanks for jumping into the pandamonium. All e-douchery about pot aside, some nice looking work. I like the rig Hopeless has. It is an odd mutant of a Turner, a Devinci, and a Brooklyn, but it tooks good. I just got my first steel hard tail and it is my first all steel bike. I brings back memories of my BB7, which had the great steel rear end and the idler pulley for the high forward placement. I'm sure the rigs handle nicely.
