So i made this :happydance:

(if you can't see that, here the album: http://content.ridemonkey.com/users/profile/2704.html)

Anyways, it's a steelhead that i welded a bunch of crap to. It was originally supposed to run 48V in an attempt to break the current 61 mph eBike record, but I realized that with 4 batteries on there it would be so heavy that I could only go in a straight line. I figured a usable 24V would be more fun than a pointless 48.

It's obviously still missing a few parts, namely the cranks and front brake, but the project is on its final stretch. My plan is to be able to pedal it to around 10 mph, then use the electric assist up until around 20 mph. It's intended to go much faster than that, but in public streets that's a big no-no.

Specs:

frame: azonic steelhead (pro size)
fork: stance 20mm
brakes: front, 8" hayes hfx-9, rear: motor regen
motor: etek-R (18HP max, but that's somewhere between 48 and 72V)
controller: 4qd-300, 300 amp max

i've been looking into it, but it would cost more than the overall bike so far... hopefully the prices do come down soon though.

Right now i'm looking into building a small shed with solar panels as the roofing... the entire shed with enough panels to charge the bike (over about a 8 hour period) would still cost less than the lifeP04's. Haven't factored in the cost of a battery bank though.

interesting, I thought facebook albums were open access. Anyways, I uploaded the pics to my album here on RM, so it should be available there now.

how does it handle with a flat tire?
a bit rough across the bumps, but otherwise great.

I'm actually waiting for a 24" rear to come in, to lower the weight a bit and allow me to plant my feet on the ground. It's just a tad too high right now.
