are you painting the 888 to black?
nope, when i ordered the fork i paid extra $$ to have them put black lowers on instead of white ones. Its going to take a little longer but since my frame won't be in my hands til end of march/early april i have time to wait.
i have seen a few OE models that come like this and they look sick.

im not sure on the 08's. i think one of the norco DH frames but im not sure.

also the 09 888 RCV's come with black lowers. mine will be all black with nickel stanchions

if your really interested in one check out the classifieds here. there is a guy selling his MINT 08 marz 888 ata wc with black lowers and stem for only $625. thats not a bad deal.

yeah i am a little worried but since its going back to marz to get the black lowers they are going to inspect it for the other problems. one of the guys their said they would tear it down and check everything.
plus its an 09 so hopefully alot of the issues would have been addressed before production.

i guess well see. thats the beauty of a 3 year warranty too.

i love the feel of marz stuff so much that i hope it works out. I am one of the few who loved their par chamber fork (07 66 ata). i love the fact that it ramps up really hard at the end of the stroke. perfect for big drops IMO. i hope this doesn't disappoint.

Are you gonna get dialed with some of those new drops outs that slack out the HA more for the Socom?

I'm thinking I probably will, but I wanted to ride it as is at first just to see what it's like. Worst case scenario, I appreciate the new drop outs that much more
Sweet. Keep us posted and post some pics.
I'd like to know the difference from a rider perspective. :thumb:

i've got a pimp new ride for '09. by "pimp new ride" i mean, the same thing i had last year but with new pivot bearings ;)

'07 Bottlerocket
'08 66 RCV
x9/x0
Transition Revolution 36 wheels
Juicy 7's with steel braided lines and Straitline levers
no-name pedals
v-two h-bar
sunline stem
Fox VANR (might have the $$ to get it pushed by race season)

it's definitely underkill compared to my old demo 8 but it fits better for 90% of what i ride locally. if i ever make it up to expert level racing i might get another full on DH sled but the BR works great for now. i even like it better in big rock gardens than the demo...just not so much on fast chatter bumps.

yeah if its a '09, then they fixed the issue with the tolerances of the PAR cartridge. midway through '08, they revised the cartridge...its too bad i had to go through 3 to get the right one.
the fork does feel great though. i was hesitant about a air DH fork, but it feels great..just wasnt reliable at first.

I've tried a whole bunch of different frames and parts and settled on a 08 Turner DHR frame/Vivid, WCs, Code brakes, SRAM shifting, Saint cranks, Supra Rims, Nevegal 2.5 Stick-Es, I-fly & Ibeam, Funn DM stem with Reverse XXL bars. Haven't found a pedal I like better than my old Flatboys.

We'll see how it goes. I just got it built up last night with some extra parts I had lying around (still waiting on the 40 and sdg seat and post).

It felt terrible at first, but I moved my stem back one set of bolt holes (never run it this short before) and now it feels pretty good. I'll know for sure after I race this weekend.

Post a review of the race as soon as you get it. I'm curious about stiffness and overall performance.

BTW. Is it only me or the 09 marz decals are hideous? The only reason to design them like that would be to cause epilepsia.

Here is my ride... A 2004 demo 9 I picked up brand new.

I know... I have walmart specials on for tires, but I made them studded tires for a snow race. I have specialized pro chunders on it now.

Running tubeless on mavic 823's and weighed in at 42 with tubes.

Also to come:
A new shock from ELKA suspension.
Maybe, if I scrounge up the cash, a new 2010 boxxer.

And the studded tires:

Same as I raced on in '08 but with some nice new bits:

2009 RST R-1 Super has semi-open oil bath, rebound and compression damping circuits:

New Sunline W-I-I-I-DE V-One bars (745mm):

The new Boxxer-compatible top crown allowed use of some Twenty6 direct-mount bling (thanks, Tyler):

Hayes Stroker Aces round out the package:

I really did not like the stock cable/hose routing for the rear (through the upper shock mount / swing link and down the seatstay) - - too much movement and sharp edges to wear on things. I left the shift cable alone for now; but this was an excellent opportunity to reroute brake line. Floater rod was a willing participant and the routing passes right by its front pivot now. All I needed was a couple self-stick plastic hose guides in the center of the downtube:
