So I have been procrastinating changing my fork oil and seals. I bought motorcycle/dirt bike fork oil (5wt and 10 wt) and ordered new seals from fox. I have been reading some threads that talk have been mentioning fox suspension fluid and various other brands of oils. I am wondering if using standard oil is gonig to make any difference in the forks performance and make the forks action stiction different than it currently is.

Somebody please give me some schoolin'.

Also would anyone know where to find a good guide to change the oil on a Fox Float R.

I don't see the dust seal and oil change assembly for the float so I am hoping that it is going to be the same as the Talas.

Everyone has their favorite brand but as long as there aren't seal swelling additives, there is real no difference between equivalent weights of motorcycle and mountainbike suspension oils.

So I am to the point where I am beginning to add fluid. the manual that I am looking at says 160mL of 7wt in the damper side and 10mL's on the other side. the more specific side says 160 in the damper side, 30mL in the spring side oil bath and 5 ml in the air chamber. Im not sure how to put 30 ml in the spring side oil bath(isn't that the same side as the damper side?) and I have no idea how to get the fox fluid into the air chamber...could someone please advise me.

Im a little lost at this point, but so close to finished.

The spring side is the left side of the fork seen from your handlebar. Riders left that is.

Let the air out of your air chamber so it is completely empty.

With the retaining bolts for the outer legs off and the legs pulled off to the point that you can insert oil into the holes in the bottom, pour in the correct amount of oil.

If you have refilled the damping side (riders right) with oil, keep the fork inverted as to not drain that leg. That or simply don't loosen the bolt on that side.

Now reinstall the bottom retainer bolt/s and turn the fork right side up again.
Screw the topcap off the air chamber (riders left), make sure it is empty again, just in case.

Pour out any old oil and clean the area out with a rag.
Pour in the new oil (5ml/cc), grease the o-rings on the topcap and the thread slightly, fork grease is recommended.

Reinstall topcap, repressurize the air chamber, good to go.
