:stupid: I'm looking for a fully rigid Fox 40, a job that doesn't pay me, and a girlfriend that won't put out.;)

Why would you be excited for a company who is known for their "stealth" soles, to make a shoe that doesn't use "stealth" soles?
Man you guys are killing me here. Stealth bottoms with SPD!! Why is this so hard to understand? Did you even read my post about the Oakleys being SPD and having soft rubber bottoms? The stealth bottom with help stick to the SPD pedal if you dont click in right away. Then you give the "Im with Stupid" smiley, which means you agree with me. hmmm

I could see some issues with this idea...

The shoe and pedal mfg would need to make sure that the rubber was not in contact with the pedal while clicked in to retain the ability to un-clip. The friction of that rubber on a platform with any traction could result in a situation where the shoe might be VERY difficult to remove..bye bye knee.

I am actually surprised that the bike industry has been able to avoid the type torque testing and liability that ski bindings/boots have to go through. You simply cannot put rubber on the contact portions of a ski boot for this exact reason.

Other than that issue, It is a good idea IMO. I have had plenty of clipless shoes that are like glass (or carbon) on the bottom. It can be a little bothersome on the street...it sux on rough MTB terrain.

661 makes a softer rubber bottom SPD and then the Oakley. You cant get the Oakley anymore as far as I know. They were awesome but man they wore out FAST.

If you're a size 10...I have a set of those 661 shoes that I used to race bmx in '03. Barely used them since we picked up a different sponsor mid season. Might give um up cheap! I also have a couple sets of the GOOD caged Shimano spd pedals. Not the plastic stuff. I know all about the need to stick while unclipped. But I couldn't help it. You seemed so annoyed at that other dude....I just had to pile on. Besides, you have over 6000 posts! What better reason to pile on?

so, if you can't click in right away, you'd rather be stuck out of position by the stealth? have you ever ridden 5.10s? if so, you know how hard it is to move your foot if it gets a bit off, i have to wait til smooth sections to literally peel my foot off.

parachute pants are cool, too.

Do you like riding with 4 lb shoes? I dont.
453(ish)grams/lb= wtf are you talking about?

i'm considering losing 4 lbs of muscle to account for the difference. or, better yet, you could build more muscle to help manhandle your 4lb shoes. i'd like to see some of the more obese downhillers try to make this argument :lighten:

weight weeeeneee is synonomous with man-gina 'round these parts.

I too have two versions of the same bike, one for dh/fr, one am/xc. I call them sunday, and sunday after a wash.

I'm fitting my old 5.10s with new, lighter, more aerodynamic laces this season. Pics to follow.

You can wear parachute pants if you want. I dont think they are cool, sorry.

Yes, Ive ridden 5.10s with Xpedos and spike pins.

Ive found that if I clip out to dab in a steep section I dont always clip right in. Most of the time I clip right in, but not always. Most SPD shoes have a hard bottom and just dont stick to the pedal if not clipped in. Some XC SPD shoes have bigger traction knobs and slide too. The older SPD shoes like Oakley Wrench, 661 Nuevos, Shimano MP66L, have more of a platform friendly bottom if you dont clip right in and have to wait for a different section.

Maybe Im just old school, but I like being clipped in and I clip in and out a lot. I still ride like Im on flats. Id rather be stuck out of postion than have my foot slide off.

My shoes weigh about a lb and a half each. They also soak up water like there is no tomorrow.

Did you know that you can move your legs faster and easier with lighter shoes? Because if you didn't, you're an idiot. Did you know you can pedal harder and longer with lighter shoes? Because if you didn't, you're an idiot.

I like doing 9-11 runs a day - more if I have time. If I was doing 1-2 and sitting at the tables at the bottom drinking beer and trying to look pretty and act tough for the rest of the day, I wouldn't care. Since I like doing more runs and not being tired, I like lighter shoes.

Lighter shoes are an advantage for fast riding and endurance. I don't know why 5.10 hasn't caught on to this yet.

Love, Will.

Also, no need to be a douche. If you like heavy shoes that's fine. I don't.

Damn I still think those Carvers are ugly as sin. What's with the resurgence of gaudy 80s style color scheme? I still feel like I'm looking at kids' shoes.

The freerider's look rather tight however ;)

I'm pretty impressed that this thread has not devolved into the usual, "5.10's suck, No they don't" but instead has chosen a new path of downward spiraling.

Clipless pedals and stealth rubber would go together about as well as cotton candy and tuna fish.

The new shoes look rad by the way. God Bless America.

one could also make an argument of angular velocity here....more mass=more angular momentum=more readily available torque to the cranks=easier pedaling=less strenuous on legs=longer harder pedaling. phew.

this is why 5.10 impacts paired with my new laces will be the winning combo this year.

Wore the new freeriders yesterday for the first time. They are stiff, and come with nice inserts. coming from Shimano MP's, the bottoms are tacky and dont even compare. Only down side is that Im limping around with crank bite. Their other shoes have rise's on the inside but why not these? Been riding with MP for two years and I forgot about crank bites now Im cursing every step. I give them 4 out of 5.

Add that to my analogy list. Now we just need to track the aerodynamic lace mod from Rew. I'm skeptical. Personally, lace waxing has been good enough for me. And cheap! But what do I know...I think screwing your cousin is only wrong if she's ugly.

I have always wore Vans when I was BMX'ing back in the day, and since I started wearing the 5.10's, they have been my top choice in riding shoes, especially for my DH/FR game. I just got these 5.10's last week, and they are awesome! I love the ankle protection they provide and the good looks!

I've heard alot of finish line excuses, but that's a good one....shoes soaked up too much water, exceeded optimal shoe weight...bwaha
excuses? I'm not making excuses. I'm as fast as I am. But I'd still rather have light shoes. Since you're a mans man though, you should have no problem strapping weights to your shoes, because you'll go faster!

And yeah, tell the roadie and runners all about how heavy shoes will keep you moving faster :lighten:

This thread is officially dumb. I like light shoes. You like heavy shoes. I'm curious about weight. You can go fyck yourself, because I really don't care whether you think that's gay.

Have a nice day :)

Come on guys, lets keep it nice! Everyone has there preference as to what weight shoes they want to wear, and lighter is better. We all know that, but there are the few whom love heavier shoes. In the long run when it comes to DH, FR, AM, or XC riding, it is the rider that makes the difference and wins the race. I have seen and witnessed a rider riding a POS (tank heavy) Huffy whoop the hell out of another seasoned rider riding a $5,000 feather lite MTB.

Lets all have a nice day here! PEACE!!!:lighten:

compare how much you pedal in a dh race to how much roadies pedal.

it really won't make that much of a difference in a run that lasts 4 minutes. and if it does, then your problems aren't the shoes.

Thanks to the OP for posting pics.

I really want to like the Karvers...but I just can't. I do like the lace guard feature.

You're right! Of course a few seconds here or there doesn't matter in a race! Maybe it wouldn't make that much of a difference, maybe it would - the point is its not going to hurt, and it will almost certainly help. Plus, the point isn't pedaling, its how much you move your feet and swing your legs around. You're just wasting energy there. Since I'm usually pretty tired by the end of a run that I'm sprinting/pushing as hard as I can on (such as a race), any extra fatigue is to be avoided. Likewise, I drop my feet here and there in corners, I frequently rock the pedals back and forth to avoid rocks and generally move the cranks a lot. I think other people might do that to. Whether or not it'd make a huge difference for a single run is pretty debatable, and I'm not really that interested in it. The good people will continue to ride fast, and the slow people will continue to ride slow. But I'm willing to go out of my way to ride faster for longer, instead of being done after 9-10 runs. If that means looking around for lighter shoes then I'm all over it!

Anyway, to each their own. You don't care. I obviously do. I'm out!

Hey Leppah!

I see you have the same avatar as on Singletracks. Good to see you here brother! I love those Airwalks BTW. My son wears Airwalks and Vans and he loves them both. BTW, I was not trying to step on you with your posting over on Singletracks forum, and I apologize if you feel I did. Its all good brother! Are those your Airwalks? They are cool looking!
