What type of fork do you have? Is there any ay to get a zero stack or shorter stack height headset? What frame is it?

Plus installation. i'll drop $300 easily. I'm so pissed.

Well I paid $317 with free shipping.
Then buy another one and sell the shorter one for a smaller loss??? I've done this before too. Fortunately it was for an old Judy SL and the upper/steerer assembly was pretty cheap.

Good idea. But the magic question is:

How long is the steerer now?

Time to put up an under sales on pinkbike.

Maybe some kiddie with a 12" low stacked steel DJ frame can use your steerer kit.

An apprentice in the shop was to cut down a steerer tube once, he was told to "measure five times before cutting".

He did, he measured five times, there was to be 21 cm (8.2") of tube left on the fork.

He then proceeded by cutting off that amount from the fork, leaving the steerer tube just shy of 5 cm (1.9").

So $184.45 w/tax for the crown steer upper assembly + $45 install = $229.45

I paid $317 shipped brand new.

Should I just buy new fork?

Might as well buy a new fork and have a lot of spare parts, you'll also have your bike up and running faster.

Here is the ghetto way to measure steerer tubes:

compare it with the old fork and add 5 mm.

Just ordered new Argyle 318 fork, should have them by the 26th. I'm gonna have a bike shop install and cut them so I don't have to worry about messing things up again.

don't make me kick your ass
I always install the fork with an uncut steerer and measure what height I want my handlebars. I then mark the steerer and remove the fork. I make a mar on the steerer 3 cm closer to the crown and that is where I cut the steerer. Fits perfect every time.
