I will be out there Thursday-Sunday racing CAT-1 DH. =] :monkey:

If you see me out there come by and say hello! I will be at the Tomac Mountain Bikes and RideSFO booths.

Where the riding is good
Sure. I'll go and get slaughtered by the world class pros. If you spot the Mafia tent, stop by for a cold PBR.

The real fun is going to be at the Post Office jumps the Monday after.

I'll be there, Joshy... Thursday through Saturday (racing Saturday). Possibly returning on Sunday to watch the pros.

I'll be out there Thursday and Friday only for practice, just to ride. As stated in the past, every year that I do not race, the weather is amazing. Every year that I do race, it turns into a slop fest. Hopefully this year will be different, considering that I'm racing.

Should I ride my Blur 4X or Demo 8 for the DH?
I'd say you could totally go either way. There's a high speed section that's really bumpy, and on a short travel bike you could really eat rocks on it. Otherwise, a shorter travel bike could possibly be the way to go.

But big bikes are fun, too, and it's a dog and pony show out there with people showing off their 20" travel bikes that have only an air shock and 6" rotors because "lyke-OMG-WTF-BBQ having this bike and making it weigh only 22 lbs. is lyke-OMG-WTF-BBQ awesome."

Just go out with whatever bike you feel comfortable with. You'll enjoy yourself. :D

I did short travel last year (Tomac Snyper 140mm). I think this year I might do it on my big bike.

It really is what you are comfortable on. a 4x might be a little rough on the high speed/rutted sections, but be killer on the climb after the log drop.

...not to mention that on the jumps, that 4x bike would SMOKE.

Some of the big bike guys look like they're "lumbering" over those table-tops.

As for the pros? Most of them run 6" bikes.

Definitely ride what's comfortable. Don't ride a short travel bike just because you think it's faster if it's not comfortable. As far as the Pro class goes, I know a number of people have won it, and I want to say more guys have won it on full size DH bikes than shorter travel bikes.

Agreed.

Minnar won last year on his V-10.

Just putting it out there.

I wish I could go again. Had a blast last year. Gotta save my $ to race Crankworx this year.

I hope its different! The course definitely needs some changes, as its been just a rehashed version of the previous year's course the last few times.
It was the only one I'd been to so I didn't know any better; but I really liked the top section - - even if I had to work all one afternoon's practice to clear the big gap (well, big to me).

I'll be there as well... (big surprise! :D)

i'll be bouncing around going crazy (shooting photo, taking care of dean/nema team riders, & pumping up the whole PRO GRT!), so if anyone needs to track me down... cell phone is best! otherwise i'll have a Dean Optics / Nema Booth out there near the food court (booth 300) Erick Kozin from Nema will be there as well... so BRING US BEER & LIQUOR! :D

Really wanted to race dual slalom... but it's looking very unlikely now! VERY BUMMED!

I will be there but not racing. The car accident earlier this week (Guy slammed into the tow hitch on 4 runner at 40) gave me 2 compression fractures on the T7 and T8 vertabrae. So Ill go heckle..... :thumb:
Very sorry to hear you've been busted up through not mountain biking just at the start of your season. That completely blows.

I'm curious, as you got hit but some dumb ass, does that mean you'll sue for $$$ etc etc as is the common perception of American society?

Please don't take the question the wrong way, it is not meant to offend. I'm just curious as to how stuff like that gets dealt with in the US.

I hope your recovery back to riding is a quick one.

I'll be there taking pictures. I'm thinking of racing slalom, but might not because it's $$$.

Oh, and i'm looking for a ride up to there Wednesday afternoon from the SB area. (I'll chip in for gas, of course)

I dunno how others would do it, but if I got rear ended by someone and it jacked up my back (jacked up meaning fractures or something gnarly like bullcrew, not something lame like whiplash or a pulled muscle) I would expect two things:

Either the person who hit me or more probably their insurance company to pay to put my car back to the way it was and for them to pay for whatever medical bills are a result of the whole deal. Simple.

Where it gets messy is if you're self employed or something like that. If you get hurt and can't work and therefore don't generate income while you recover... who pays for that? Is it just that life sucks and you take the hit on it because some dumb@ss can't pay attention to the road? Do they pay your normal income during those times? What about whatever clients got screwed because you're out? What if you lose a client to because you're suddenly unreliable?

Whatever, I'm glad I work for the government.

Oh yeah, I'll be at sea otter. Look for the 50/50 Racing booth, when we're not riding we'll be partying it up there.

Hey thanks. That clarifies things largely. I can see how being self employed would create a complete nightmare.

What he said, not too mention all the crap involved. Time off, lack of mobility, pain, swelling... Im not one too get something for free but when its direct negligence and theres going to be future issues as well as immediate limitations physiccally and financially then yeah we have something to talk about. My health ie my back is pretty important to me! :D

I dont know who else on here has broken the back or been hammered down but I assure you the future is going to be painfull. As I get old, cold days etc...
EEEEHhh Either way there are no bad days, Im excited every day I wake up. I love life!!!

Get better, man. That's a tough one.

I don't have it near as bad as you right now. I'm nursing a broken collarbone, delivered courtesy of Beacon. Other side from my previous break; I think I was trying to achieve balance :o:
