tried out the camera today and used an extra mounting arm included w/ the camera to get more upward angle with the chest mount. Camera-wise the result was good, but riding slick trails the first day back on dirt after 6 months was a bad idea. I really dig this angle though, way better sense of what is going on than with a traditional helmet mount.

Oddly enough, these same clips look much better on Facebook than Vimeo. Go figure?

The first 20 seconds of my '09 riding season, and the first crash (other than eating sh*t on the sidewalk on my fixie but that's another story).

after the crash knocked the mount loose and the camera goes in for a close-up of my junk.

Better, but going slow.

And crashing again trying to use the side of a root to cut the corner to the inside. the root broke as soon as my front wheel hit it and i punched a rock with my hand. day over.

Hah, nice Lee, that first 20 seconds crash is like something I would do.. Why don't you leave that to me and you concentrate on pinning it?! I am so fired up to get on good dirt with the new DH rig(s). XC riding has been epic here over the last 10 days.

Great angle, you really get a good feel for the ride there, you even get a sense of when the bike is sliding which doesn't seem to happen at all with helmet cams IMO. Looks quick too.

Can't wait for my Revolt to get here, in the meantime good dirt would be nice

At least there isn't any snow on those trails. I want things to dry out!!!

toby
There's no snow on the Colchester trails. They are probably full of mud now though. That day that it was 60* the upper trails were mint.

When they dry out Toby we should head out. I still have to dial in the suspension on the 303R.

Lee, do you have the clip of me crashing? Id say the setup worked out pretty well for a first attempt.

nope, when i crashed into the rock i must have hit one of the buttons and sent it into picture mode. everything we shot after that is a bunch of crappy still shots of the sky. oops, lesson learned.

I'm just looking for some more info on this camera

Is there any indication that it's recording? It appears that it's pretty frill-free, no led's, lights or screen. I'd hate to think I'm recording something, but not be able to find out until I get home and download.

what's the scoop?

yeah a red light blinks and there is a small beep when you push the button. When i crashed i must have hit the mode select button and didn;t bother to check before i kept recording. there is a small lcd display on the front shows what mode you are in, and the cool thing is it is upside down so when you look down at it in the chest harness it looks right-side-up. super easy to use and set up.

Yo, AP here are a few shots of the trail we did yesterday. Took a rake to it and managed not to crash. 2nd clip is with it angled down a bit more . . . not sure if i like it better or not. either way Vimeo kills the resolution:plthumbsdown:

I think I like the angle you had on the first video "rock boxing" the best. On the last couple I find the amount of bike you see kind of distracting.

Thanks for posting these up, I think I'm going to grab one of these cameras, but I think the helmet mount might be my favorite.

Lee! - Cool vids man!

Will you bring that system to the Open? Tempest would look pretty sick with that... :)

I got out today for my second day of hiking/shuttling since last season. Felt good - but still dialing in suspension.

LoL...

That was awesome!

...but you guys should just ditch the ball and joust with the polo mallets.

...and WTF with the guy on the unicycle at 1:13...?!! Where did he come from?!

That looks pretty fun actually. Do you need both sides of the handlebar? What if you cut off the right side, would it give you more room to reach for the ball/ swing?
:) ... Dave - even with something like improvised bike-polo you're already thinking about ways to make it better.

oh, it's been done. but most guys just play with really narrow bars on both sides, or at the very least something other than 29" dh bars

Cool!

:)

...lopping off one side of a set of bars takes some bike-polo dedication.

Taking it one step further - if you ran TAG mag wheels AND were slick enough to time your shot with wheel rotation... you COULD blast one between the spokes...

This might be kinda' cool in small doses. The camera comes with a headlamp-style mount so I tilted it down to see what would happen. though not as cool as the angle used in Drift, it doesn't necessitate riding with a long pole coming off your helmet either.
