Good morning, monkeys! Wife and I have no plans this weekend and I like it that way. I was hoping to get in a road ride or two this weekend since it'll be my last chance to ride for 3-4 months, but the weather is going to ruin that possibility. Bummer. I need to bottle my vanilla coffee porter tomorrow.

I need to stop at Costco after work today. Anyone need anything?

Do they sell those industrial metal shelving units at costco? If so I need a few 4'x8'x2' with 3 levels. Thanks.

And I'd like a new job, but not at costco.

Fresh or frozen chicken?

I think they sell all of that. If they don't have the chainsw, Home Depot is next door.

I'll get you some lightbulbs. You'll have to make due with that.

Good morning.

Greyhound: so tell me, whats the new job all about? For whom are you workin' now?

IAB: see if you can get me a deal on liquor and some sleeveless flannel shirts. Thx.
Nothing but road riding this weekend again, but it should be nice outside so I'll take it.

We're saving lives every day....well, sorta. I'm now working for a company that sets up deionized and reverse osmosis water purification systems for dialysis and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The company is called Pure Water Solutions, and we do a wide range of systems also for laboratory setups, cosmetics, manufacturing, and research. Pretty cool gig, and I've got lots to learn. I'm the new Service Manager, so basically I'm directing traffic for our install technicians and scheduling services to our customers.

Morning monkeys!

Life for me just got worse. I got laid off today. That means I get to bother all of you everyday until I find another job!
Sorry to hear that......I know what you're going through. Enjoy the first couple of weeks, pare down your expenses to the bone, then start looking for jobs in the private colleges and green jobs sectors. Don't get down on yourself, because keeping a positive attitude begets good kharma. Don't let up for a second on looking for jobs when you start. Be aggressive and expect that you're going to have people three or four levels above you career-wise competing for the same jobs because it's super-tough out there and the rules are all different than they used to be. I'm rooting for ya.....use that kung-fu mentality and you'll be fine. Go get 'em, ninja!!

*yawn* morning.

West to East coast screws me up. Sorry to hear about the job loss, QF. Tough times, indeed.

MBC, sure it's not pig virus? I had bronchitis for like what seemed all winter this year. Sucks.

Happy Friday all, looks like a damp weekend here. Bike clinic for Cub Scouts tomorrow, then they race me around the velodrome for 30 minutes to see who can do more laps than me. Only race I can win, against 8 year olds.

Sorry to hear it. I might be joining you soon. Busines sucks, things are slow, managment has been quiet as hell. They just say they will be announcing plans on the 18th. I actually hope to get the ax at this point. Layoffs have been looming for 6 months. I'm sick of worrying about it and quite frankly sick of this job. I'm in a position to be unemployed for a year with 0 problems and no real spending cutbacks.

I'm hoping to get a mountain bike ride in today after work. Probably won't happen though. It's starting to rain right now.
Gotta do community service tomorrow for work. Lame.
Sunday morning, i'm hoping to see the Wolverine movie while the mormons are at church.

Very sorry to hear. Hang in there, something better will definitely come along.

Like IAB, this is the first weekend in memory that I'm headed into with nothing planned. Ahh!

That sounds like you should be planning a grand exit. WTF are you waiting for? Spring is the absolute best time to get laid off/quit (quitting in an especially grandiose fashion if in a position like your). Gives you time to plan an awesome summer, get bored by fall for a couple months of hardcore job hunting.

Bingo. Getting laid off CAN be really nice. Especially if there's severance...

What am I waiting for? A sweet severence package. Not a lot of money but my corporate healthcare would extend for 13 months. No healthcare is not an option for me.

No severance, just "turn in all your stuff".

I've already begun the search for a new job.

BigT doesn't know that I'm unemployed yet.
Damn, that really sucks. Aren't they required by law to give you at least 2 weeks notice or severance?

Ah yes. Well, try falling asleep on the boardroom table. Say you're "burnt out" and go on medical leave.

Just brainstorming here...

My sister in law got laid off. She thought she was unfairly targeting because she has MS and takes a lot of sick days (rightfully so) when her symptoms flare up. On her last day she turned in her paperwork to go on disability so she can't officially be laid off. It was pretty much a giant FU to her boss.

Morning everyone!

I started of work this morning with one of the most irritating types of support calls. Let me explain my job a bit first though... I do technical support for about 12 different online colleges around the US. The call this morning was an elderly woman who doesn't understand modern technology, refuses to follow direction/listen, and interrupts constantly to discuss what I said 3-4 steps ago.

Not the best way for me to start the day off. Everyone at my job is always blown away with my patience I have with students, these types almost make me lose it. I deal with everything from high school drop outs, single parents with 9 kids, to the most elderly person I have ever heard use a phone.

But tonight things will be better. I am going to hit the gym, play some mario kart wii, and drink some beer.
