Working hard daily to get the course dialed for this weekend, It's shaping up to be the best dual course I've built!

Have been trying to get a bobcat for the past two weeks, finally got it yesterday.
Threw down all day yesterday building some new sections to keep the power co. happy.

The new sections should present some new opp's for passing and bar bangin'
Weather calls for a shower Thurs. that is needed after the work and two days dryout
will make for perfect conditions on Race Day!

There are several motel/hotels that are pretty clean for 60 and up.
I can't really give permission to camp. I am pretty sure it's cool to camp in
the grass parking area in front of the Atanta Motor Speedway 10min. North
on 19/41. Probably AAA camping 30 min. away.

We'll be there! Heading down from Nashville tonight and staying in Atlanta, so it should be a pretty easy trip for us. Weather looks great!

I am putting this race on cuz' all the other events are giving up on slalom, Sucks to see some of the best series
are taking slalom out or running solo runs etc. - There's nothing like mano e mano!!!!

See those who make it out tommorow!

Since this was my first ds race, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I've got to say that not only did Chuck do an excellent job of putting on the race, it turns out that this may be my favorite kind of racing! I love the Y track format, and Chuck has done a great job of creating a track that keeps you on your toes.

Chuck, when's the next one??

Thanks for the compliment, maybe early fall I will consider another race. I have another slalom project 45 min. north of my course that may offer a fall race? So it will kind of depend how much is going on and whether I have time for both events. But, I haven't givin' up on slalom like alot of other venues so you can bet I will be trying to give a little CPR - 'Chuck Pitts Racing' to help slalom stay alive.

thanks again for your support guys!

Is there any pictures posted up anywhere? I saw a lot of cameras on the course and was wondering if there is another website with some pictures of the race?

Don't worry Josh, I've seen how you ride, and it at gonna look good in pictures. :brows:

Chuck, where is this other race you are talking about? I'm going to do my level best to make any and all dual slalom and 4x races that are in this part of this country. I've had some trouble finding info on races though. Any really good ones that I shouldn't miss? I was hoping that they would be having ds races at Snowshoe this year, but it looks like they'll be doing dual stunt races instead, which could still be pretty cool.

Since I have a place to stay in Atlanta, it should be pretty easy for me to make any races in the area if I know ahead of time. Can't wait to get some more of that action!

I don't know what happened to all the pics??????????

Yeah, Missed you A Gore! Come ride it if you're down for a visit, holla.

Don't know about other slalom in the area yet. Can't believe SS is pulling that crap, I don't think there will be alot of crossover riders from Dh to duel stunt?
It saddens me, I had planned my calendar around SS series. Guess I will focus on DH instead.

You still ride bikes there throttle boy? hahaha
I don't know but, the website is calling it dual stunt which is becoming more popular at events this year.
Why I'm not sure but, the other ones I've seen like at Sea Otter are just
wooden obstacles (trials like) with two lanes racing the obstacle head to head elimination style.
Sure they will double the number of participants from the slalom crowd they were drawing.
Damn, just throw a simple slalom on the bunny hill behind the resort with a couple small to med. doubles couple berms and run the bunny lift and almost everyone that races downhill would sign up for slalom too.
Most competitive Dh racers didn't want to wear themselves out with the logistics of where slalom was last year.

I want to cut a new Rap song based off Nas' Hiphop is dead, just insert Slalom is dead!

NYC, Dirty South, Westcoast, Midwest let's go!!!
If Slalom should die before I wake, load an X in clip and body em' all day.
Roll up every resort, all these wack promoters are gay!
whenever I show up, the spot is sewn up. Any slope rat will tell yah slalom helped grow us up.
Draggin' bars to the right, flip it back to the left the gravity crowd know slalom is def!

Dual slalom is dead.... Dual slalom just died this morning, she's gone she's dead.

Most tracks are compared with legitimized crap, just poles in the ground what's up wid dat?
Remenising when it wasn't all business, now these bitches won't even listen.
They forgot where it started, so we all gather here for the dearly departed.
Dual slalom since a toddler, remember when my tire of choice was a maxxis mobster.
If it dies let me hit my last gap jump partna, then you can donate my lungs to the rasta!
Went from grass hills to dug out berms and rythm sections, trophy girls, fireworks and toke sessions
Rip Dual Slalom, I'll build a set of dirt jumps on your grave and say the blessing.

Ah, speed trials I guess you could call it. Kinda stupid as that narrows the field of folks capable of riding the course (and discourages DH bikes).

Chuck - yes, sorta and no. Just sold my hardtail (sorry, I know that makes baby Slalom Jesus cry) but have been hitting a fair bit of road miles. About to rebuild the DH bike and start pedaling it around the XC trails to get in shape for the summer. But otherwise, it's all pre-mix, all the time :)

That does make baby slalom Jesus cry, too funny! Missed you at the race... guess I see at least partially why. Yeah, same thoughts I had on the speed trials.... sure the course will be watered so others besides Lenosky and Chase can even ride the dang thing. Then it won't even be fun to watch.
But, you know spectators just like seeing people rack up while their drunk so I'm sure they will enjoy seeing the 5 people who sign up hurt themselves.

Hey Deiner, on another note CampThunder is back! having an xc race in a couple weeks. I'm gonna go just
to make fun of people vomiting! Probably cruise the course hangin' out diff. places shootin' some photos of my skinny friends. You should join me if you can... Sunday the 18th I think.

Nah, I wasn't at the race b/c of visiting the parents while they were vacationing down in Jekyll Island. They wouldn't rent me and the missus a tandem beach cruiser b/c they said any time they rent tandems to first time tandem riders they wreck, wreck others and trash the bikes. No joke.

I'm 50/50 on racing Thunder, even though I haven't touched the XC bike in months. Any idea if they'll open it back up for public riding?

It's open for practice to anyone the weekend before which is not this weekend but, next.
There are ways around the BS as well. This Sat. - tommorow morning there is a group ride with a bunch of "legal" people on the ride. The first guys are going out at like 7:30 and coming back to get others each lap so like 9:00 and 11:00. You can ride with someone who is "legal" and ride there anytime. So you could ride there tommorow and just say you're with the "group ride" because they all get split up anyway.
It's all BS really and I don't mean boyscout. Just tell them I am part of the Thomaston cycling club and build trails. I have been ok so far I've only ran into one person out there. It's hard to even try and run into anyone yah know....
There are a couple new trails added to the loop kinda hard to find but, the loop is like 12 miles now. If you continued down the river road past the switchbacks and go around a gate then bare left on the jeep road turns to single track, the singletrack splits-to the right is the climb which "in the race" will follow the downhill which would be the trail to the left which you enter somewhere hard to find after the switchback climb. Also Includes the Fire Run... yah know the one I laid out and you helped clean up and we shuttled. When you get to all the sawdust piles at the bottom bare left and there is new single track leading back to the watertower climb, I think you and I rode that before.

Sport will be 24 miles and over 2000 ft. of climbing per lap like 4200 total.... uh no thanks to the race!
My xpert buddy road the sport course and took 3hrs. said he'd have to build up to the xpert loop 34miles.
It's not going to be a race it's going to be a battle of will and attrition. You finish you'll be top 10 I'm sure!

Yeah, that's the problem - I/we are in between sport and beginner as far as Thunder fitness goes. I still may do it and plan on granying everything and trying to make up time on the DH and by not flatting out*.

*I'm probably full of s--t

Sounds like a plan, and not a bad one. I think alot of people if that many even enter this race will not realize what they are getting into. Therefore most will be pushing the climbs after a lap and recovering on the downhills. So it may turn into a downhill stage race with self propelled shuttles in between.

This place isn't like most other races with that much elevation gain either. It is so natural and unridden it takes a toll with all the resistance the trail offers. I think 5mph average is a good target for our fitness level. And that's doing 30mph on the downhills... hahaha

Go for it man you got the will to finish it, at least that would be a victory in my eyes.

My brother-in-law sent me these, mainly to see the new additions to the course. Chuck, I get out there one day for a race. My knee been jacked up for about a month. I'm kinda suprised some of the other FL peeps didn't make it. Maybe these will get some more posted.

Cool Shot there was def. some stylish whips and big air over the Monster Table.
That stand would have made for some cool pics, but no snipers this time.
Maybe next time take a Water cannon and shoot at the competitors to make it fun.
